90-- 107142 repair or replace such faulty work within a reasonable time, the village shall proceed to enter into a contract to repair and restore the surface of such cut or opening, and the expenses incurred by the village shall immediately be paid by the one to whom the permit to make such cut or opening was issued. b. Any permitee who makes a cut or opening 1 - :r:. ---- -- in a street, alley, sidewalk or public grounds shall repair the same within thirty days, unless an extension is granted by the village board or its chairman. C. The removal of material from the area `, cut, the excavation thereunder, and the backfill to subgrade, shall be the responsibility of the applicant and shall be performed in a workmanlike manner. d. Parties performing services under con- tract for the village shall, after making application for a permit to make such cuts or openings in streets, alleys, sidewalks and other public grounds, proceed according to specifi- cations as provided in that contract. SECTION 8. Insurance and surety bond. Any procurer of a permit may provide such work on village right of way abutting his property only, or he may employ an independent contractor, as approved by the village clerk, who shall not commence work until he has obtained insurance and obtained a surety bond with limits not- less than hereinafter set out, namely: a. Workmen's compensation insurance in compliance with the laws of the State of Nebraska, and employees liability insurance. b. Public liability and property damage insurance covering such independent contractor within the limits the village board sets from time to time by resolution. C.
