<br />r01681 <br /> <br />PUBLIC PARTICIPATION - Jim Swanson, 2316 West Louise, requested to speak to the <br />board concerning Stuhr Museum. He stated that a committee has been formed to <br />preserve the education programs at Stuhr Museum. They are having organizational <br />meetings and may consider the issue to bring to a vote of the people the funding and <br />financing of Stuhr Museum. He expressed concern on the meetings of the Stuhr board <br />and the fact that the county does not have representation at the meetings. He <br />expressed his concern on the railroad cars, the engine that was sold and the volunteers <br />and the teachers at the museum. Lancaster and Eriksen stated that the Stuhr Museum <br />Board should have the opportunity to work through the problems. Hartman stated that <br />this is a serious situation. <br /> <br />4 BILL STOL VAL - UPDATE ON AIRPORT ISSUES -Airport Director Bill Stoval was <br />present to update the county board on the airport. He stated he is not requesting money <br />today. He thanked the county board for the money they contributed for the drainage <br />problems. He stated that it has been tough at the Airport the last two months. Ag-Chem <br />shut down but they are saving half of the jobs and the negotiations are going well. <br /> <br />They are negotiating with a cargo carrier to rent a building at the airfield and hope to <br />have a decision on this today. Emsulified Asphalt received an economic development <br />grant and they are doing well. They are also negotiating with another new company that <br />will produce a type of asphalt. The bus line that is located at the airport is requesting <br />more space. They reviewed all of the leases and have increased the fees. The law <br />enforcement training center is now using the old 422 runway for drivers training. <br /> <br />After the September 11, tragedy the airport had to increase security and Mr. Stoval <br />thanked the Hall County Sheriff and the Chief of Police for their assistance. The <br />National Guard is now stationed at the airport. They were faced with a serious parking <br />problem but were able to have a modified plan approved by the federal government. <br />It is projected that it will take two years for the airports to recover after these events. <br /> <br />They are always working on the boarding interment and he expressed his appreciation <br />on the patience of the public because of the security measures. There are serious <br />concerns on the insurance but they are working through them. <br /> <br />The lighting project has been completed and the new runway project will be finished in <br />the next two weeks. The nameplates for the Hall County Board of Supervisors will be <br />installed on the new taxiway. They were able to modify the taxiway and make it more <br />usable and received an additional $400,000.00 for the completion of the project. <br /> <br />He also reported that he has been negotiating with his chief security elf for Santa's press <br />conference. <br /> <br />8 DISCUSS SETTING SALARIES FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS - Hartman stated that <br />the elected officials salaries must be set for the next term by January, 2002, so he <br />placed this on the agenda. The board members received packets of information <br />regarding the NACO recommendations. Discussion was held if a committee should be <br />appointed or hold a work-study session. It was decided that the whole board should <br />address this issue. It will be placed on the December 11 meeting agenda. <br /> <br />7 DISCUSS WORK-STUDY SESSION SCHEDULED FOR 12/03/01 - Humiston stated <br />that he wanted to address this matter again.
