7.DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION ON THE RURAL TRANSIT PROPOSAL FROM <br /> MIDLAND AREA ON AGING AGENCY - Sorensen reported that the committee met with <br /> Bob McFarland, they reviewed the proposal from Midland Area Agency on Aging, and <br /> he ask Casey and Pam to be here to answer any questions. They reviewed the <br /> maintenance and fuel proposal and he was a little concerned about the fuel. He also <br /> discussed the location to park the buses and Don Robb with the Road Department and <br /> he has agreed to park them there and also to do the maintenance that would be a cost <br /> savings to the county. Midland Area Agency on Aging would like to be a subrecipient for <br /> the program. The county match would be about $41,650 not too much different from <br /> before, but there could be some overlap of the two programs. Bob has agreed to stay <br /> on to make the transition. There may be some additional costs of about $5,000.00. It <br /> will be a service operated by Midland but we do not have a contract today. We hope to <br /> be operable by November 1 and it seems feasible, there will be no change in service. <br /> Bob McFarland stated that he will need to do the October invoice sometime in <br /> November to finish with Brown. So the additional costs won't be that much. <br /> Scott noted this is taking out all the fixed fees when you are working with a for profit <br /> business. Midlands currently operates in six other counties, and they have a fleet of 18 <br /> vehicles. If the county moves forward then the county could look at signing the vehicles <br /> over to Midland. We currently have two vehicles and have two vehicles approved for <br /> Hall County but after talking to the State of Nebraska it would be best for Midland to <br /> apply for the 2 vehicles. Hall County would need to come up with the match. He is <br /> happy with the proposal and would like to move forward. <br /> Quandt noted the county will be able to provide the service with less cost. <br /> Lancaster thanked them for all the work. She ask if the county would have access to all <br /> expenditures. That will be included in the contract. <br /> Scott said they will still have to hold a public hearing because of the change in service. <br /> Richardson thanked Scott for all his work and thanked Casey for saving the day for Hall <br /> County Transit. <br /> Peterson ask about the number to call for service and Midland has an 800 number, but <br /> they may be able to forward the calls and will get the new information out on the <br /> website. There is also information on the Medicare rides. <br /> Sorensen made a motion and Quandt seconded to move forward and develop a <br /> contract with Midland Public Transit for the Hall County rural transit. Hurst, Lancaster, <br /> Peterson, Quandt, Richardson and Sorensen all voted yes, and no one voted no. <br /> Bredthauer was absent. Motion carried. <br /> Peterson thanked Bob McFarland for his work as transit director he did a great job. <br /> 4 <br />
