The vote on the motion to purchase 3 motor graders was taken. Bredthauer, Hurst, <br /> Lancaster, Quandt, Peterson, Richardson and Sorensen all voted yes and no one voted <br /> no. Motion carried. <br /> Quandt said that Hartman proposed to have working foremen and there were some <br /> problems in the past. He ask Don if the foremen are working with the crews. <br /> Don stated that the foreman have paperwork that they do and they are doing that or out <br /> with the crews. Quandt ask if he could provide information on the hours they work in <br /> the office and when they are working with the crews. <br /> PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE - Don informed the board that he has been doing bridge <br /> inspections and there are a couple of 70 foot bridges that will need to be replaced. <br /> There is a bridge by Wood River where the salt has damaged the sub structure and the <br /> concrete. There is another bridge on the Alda Spur where the concrete is falling off. He <br /> would like to address this next month and consider starting the engineering for these <br /> bridges. He noted that there could be some federal dollars available but some of the <br /> bridges may not qualify. These bridges could cost $680,000.00 right now concrete is <br /> $250.00 a square foot. They need to look at the engineering and the funding. These <br /> are big ticket items and they need to consider future discussion. Discussion on the <br /> structure and material that are used. Don noted that on the approach slabs on bridges <br /> they now driving piles for additional support they are always working to make <br /> improvements. <br /> Bredthauer ask if the county needs an engineering firm on board. Don stated he would <br /> talk to engineering firms to see if they would devote time to get it done. <br /> Don said they are not threat to the public but you do not want to have to close a bridge. <br /> Karen ask if there would be a problem on the guardrails if they were hit and Don said <br /> there is a steel I-beam that would help absorb the impact. <br /> Discussion was held on the parking lot at the Road Department and they can contact <br /> some contactors and look at getting bids out. The parking lot was surveyed in 2015 and <br /> 2021 and they have done anything. <br /> Quandt stated they need to look at other options. <br /> B) DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION TO AWARD BID FOR PROJECT C40 (340) <br /> Mr. Riehle reviewed the bids and the completion dates. He also noted the information <br /> from the Nebraska Department of Roads regarding the extension for this project and it <br /> has to be submitted by November 1, 2022. He said the number are in order and the bid <br /> bonds and checks are in order. He recommended to accept the low bid from VanKirk <br /> Bros Contracting from Shelton. <br /> Quandt made a motion and Hurst seconded to accept the low bid from VanKirk Bros <br /> Contracting for $107,906.00. Bredthauer, Hurst, Lancaster, Quandt, Peterson, <br /> Richardson and Sorensen all voted yes and no one voted no. Motion carried. <br /> 9 <br />
