Bredthauer motor graders were paid off there is $350,000.00 will go back to inheritance
fund and in 2022 2023 there will be another payment back to inheritance and with one
more payment it would be done. They proposed to use ARPA funds but that also
changed. They could use the funds for the grade all and put away another $210,000
and borrow from inheritance, that would be $420,000 and the machines would be
almost paid for. She noted the transmission repair was $43,000.00 and loader recently
repaired a motor fan that was $2,200. The county would not get these units for a year.
The county needs machines the will start and run to work on the roads. The higher the
hours on the machine the more it will cost for repairs.
Richardson made a motion and Sorensen seconded to purchase 3 more motor graders
and authorize the chair to sign.
Lancaster noted in the past purchased 5 and one burnt up and replaced with insurance
the motors were changing so Gary said that was why they purchased 5. Lancaster ask
how many routes the county has and discussion was held to purchase 3 & 3.
Lancaster reminded the board that the additional 1% vote did not pass it was only
$210,000 and we would be spending more than the budget authority so it would have to
come out of cash. The dollars for the grade all is a consideration. The motor graders
for the Road Department are like the cars for the Sheriff. She agrees with purchasing
the motor graders.
The machine that was repaired is not on a route it is on grading crew.
Don stated this is a recommendation any machine that they get will save money not just
on the price but also on the repairs.
Quandt expressed concern that in the past they purchased Caterpillars and now they
are all John Deere it would be nice to give others a chance. He ask if there were other
graders on the state bid.
This is off of the state bid the state takes bids and awards the bids. Richardson said the
current state bid was awarded to John Deere. They are awarded to different
companies.
Bredthauer said there will be a 20% increase that would be $56,000 per unit. She also
noted that the machine that is down is a 2009 machine and the ones we are trading in
have 11,000 hours on them. The Road Department cannot fix these machines they
have to go back to the dealers for repairs.
Sorensen said the 3 machines that are to traded have over 10,000 or 11,000 hours they
need to look at the machines to see which ones need to be traded in.
8
