Determine the number of days 10 days available this would be up to the
board
• Could request up to 30 days per year 30
• Could be 8 hour days county does have department with different shift
hours so would have to adjust the hours
• Would need to determine if employee only employee spouse, employee
child
• Determine donation amount would be 1 vacation day at a time with a
maximum of 5 days as long as they would have vacation days available in
their bank
Peterson also noted that the insurance committee discussed this and the insurance
could be impacted with this policy.
Lancaster said they are not sure where this is going to go and there was discussion to
look at short term disability insurance for employees. They need to look at the cost this
could be alongside a leave policy. Need to consider the options side by side. The
county currently has 3 companies that offer disability coverage for employees if they
want to purchase it.
Peterson said the thought process was to do one or the other and not both.
Sarah noted on issue to consider is that accrued sick or vacation hours are considered
hours worked but a donation policy would not be interpreted that way. There could be some liability to the
county need to look at this and also the short term disability.
Sarah number of issues want to avoid.
