• Trees are inside he sight distance tringle
• Removing the trees will improve the sight distance for vehicles using the
driveway and they are in the county road right of way
Traffic Engineering Study horizontal clear zone requirements on Monitor Road north of
Platte River Drive
• Minimum construction standards for new or reconstructed county roads they
cover design characteristics for a roadway
• Attached is a section from standards on remote residential roads
• There are maintenance standards for these roads
• The characteristic of Monitor Road north of Platte River Drive is a gravel county
road classified as a local road with very low traffic and the road serves one
residence with a driveway off Monitor road it narrows to a one lane roadway
• One mile north of Monitor road is a township road with some minor clearing of
trees along the road
• The centerline of the road does not follow the section line
• Horizontal clear zone the trees are close to the edge of the road the standards
for new construction could be applied
• The first 4,000' of Monitor Road could use the standard of new conduction for a
local road trees would be cleared within 13 ' of the centerline of the road
• Remaining 1,280' of Monitor Road recommended to apply standards for a remote
residential road surveyor determined centerline trees would be cleared within 9
feet of the road
Bredthauer stated the trees are in the county right-of-way and this is a safety issue.
They do not need a motion to approve this. Once the engineering study is completed
then public works can proceed with the work.
Quandt ask if the landowners are aware of the issue with the trees and they are.
Mr. Riehle stated he recommends to use the remote residential road and use the 10'
and 3' shoulder for 4,000 feet and use the 9' for the remote residential road
The study was directed by NIRMA and once the study is presented to the board they
can start removing the trees. Discussion was held to contact a company that could use
the large trees for pallets and the county could remove the small trees.
Bredthauer will send the study to Casey Sherlock to review.
Lancaster expressed concern that a vote would have made it clear there was no
comment contrary to the study. The board is fully informed.
8
