Sorensen reported that the gravel companies are deliver the grave and so far there
have not been any penalties on the gravel.
D.)UPDATE ON NEW HIRES FOR THE ROAD DEPARTMENT-Sorensen stated they
did hire a new equipment operator and Kelly Olsufka the new Administrative Assistant
are both to start January 3, 2022.
E.) DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON LISTING A POSITION TO FILL A
VACANCY SPOT AT THE ROAD DEPARTMENT — Bredthauer stated that the
committee has discussed hiring another full time equipment operator to better serve the
department. With the vacation and work comp issues they are shorthanded. They are
down 4 bodies and need another equipment operator.
She noted that one equipment operator left there is no surveyor, no sign technician and
no seasonal mowers and one person was moved to the foreman position and they lost
the janitor. Now they do not have enough employees to cover the work crews. It is not
safe for crews to work on various projects when they do not have enough people on the
crew. They are suggesting to eliminate the janitor position and hire an equipment
operator.
Richardson made a motion and Sorensen seconded to list the position and fill the
vacancy spot at the Road Department.
Peteson questioned if there is money in the budget to cover the cost of the new hire and
there would be.
Sorensen stated there is no need for and individual to do the cleaning the employees
can do their own cleaning they make look at a contract in the future if this does not
work.
Lancaster noted that when Mr. Hartman came with the idea of using foremen the money
in the budget was used for those increases
The vote on the motion was taken. Bredthauer, Hurst, Lancaster, Quandt, Peterson,
Richardson and Sorensen all voted yes and no one voted no. Motion carried.
F) DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON PURCHASING A TRAILER —
Bredthauer distributed information on the cost of the repairs on the trailer. Sorensen
stated that the highway department pup trailer had the tongue of the trailer fail and
luckily no one was hurt. They did budget $60,000 for a new trailer. They have not gone
out for bids for the purchase of new trailer because it would take 13 to 14 months
delivery time at a cost of $60,000.00 for a trailer that is used 3 months out of the year.
He has a problem spending that kind of money on a trailer that is not used that much.
They have looked at the options to purchase used trailers and they were able to find 2
used trailers for $30,000.00. This would even give them an additional trailer and they
have the truck to pull them it would also be more efficient and take fewer trips. It is his
9
