Valorie stated she felt she could not make a <br /> recommendation because there may be one or more people interested in applying. <br /> Butch stated the board is making this a whole lot harder than it needs to be. The chief <br /> deputy has 17 years of experience and in 2 years they will have to run for office. It is an <br /> operation of law that in the absence of the elected official the chief deputy takes over. <br /> Lancaster noted that the board has 45 days to make the appointment. She ask what <br /> the board wants to consider. <br /> Hurst stated that if she has been the chief deputy for 17 years he would be surprised <br /> that she if she would not want the job. <br /> Lancaster noted it would be good to interview and meet the employees that would be <br /> interested in applying. <br /> Bredthauer suggested holding the interviews on Tuesday January 12th but Lancaster <br /> expressed concern that this is a special meeting for the hearing and would not want <br /> other issues at this meeting. <br /> Valorie stated she is sure the chief deputy is considering the job but not sue if anyone <br /> else may apply. She stated she is currently cleaning up some issues and working on <br /> the 4D report so there is some backup. She also stated it takes confidence to come to <br /> the county board asking for money. <br /> Hurst made a motion to appoint the Clerk of the District Court chief deputy to replace <br /> Valorie. No second motion failed. <br /> Bredthauer ask if anyone wants to address this on the 12th and the sooner it is done it <br /> would be taken off of the list of issues and would give Valarie more time to transition. <br /> Quandt made a motion and Sorensen seconded to interview internal applications for the <br /> Clerk of the District Court appointment. The applications are due January 15, 2021 and <br /> the board will hold the interviews on January 19, 2021 and make the appointment <br /> January 19, 2021. Bredthauer, Hurst, Lancaster, Quandt, Peterson and Sorensen all <br /> voted yes and Richardson voted no.
