Richardson made a motion and Peteson seconded to schedule a tour of the building and get
more information.
Quandt ask Mr. Riehle if this is a better location. Mr. Riehle stated it would be better to get the
equipment to where we need to go. Discussion was held that the Weed Department building
and the Road Department property could be sold and also the property on Potash. Southern
Public Power might look at that property. There is more office space at the Hooker Brothers
location.
Lancaster stated that information on the Weed and Road building would be a vital piece of
information. The board needs more information.
Hartman noted there is also the Meyers Farm Equipment buildings and Super Sweet property
that is just sitting there and have not sold.
Lancaster stated this is just information and Bredthauer stated she received a phone call and
brought it forward for discussion.
The vote on the motion to schedule a tour of the Hooker Brother property was taken.
Bredthauer, Hurst, Lancaster, Quandt, Peterson and Richardson all voted yes and Hartman and
Quandt voted no. Motion carried. They will arrange a couple of dates to tour the property and
look at the information.
Mr. Riehle reported that the last payment on the motor grader lease of $240,610.54 is due
November 18, 2020. So this will need to be budgeted. Quandt ask if Steve could provide
information on the graders and the number of hours. Steve will get the information for the
board.
Bredthauer stated that at the NACO conference there have been studies done that when the
hours increase there is a lot of maintenance on the units. If the computer panels go out that is
very expensive. This is not a safety committee question there will be repairs and maintenance
or do we look at new ones. We do not have extra equipment.
Hartman stated the county must have money for new maintainers and a new building. We do
not have extra equipment and if the equipment is bad we need to get rid of it. He stated that
when he has been out there are 2 or 3 units sitting around. The county can't keep spending
money.
Quandt stated the machines are not that old and could be repaired. The county could be
looking at laying off employees and he does not want to do that to buy motor graders.
Bredthauer stated the trade in value goes down and ask if they could sway the machines to
reduce the usage. The final payment is coming due and it might be good to keep that in the
budget and decrease it.
Hartman stated there is good used equipment instead of buying new. Farmers buy used
equipment.
8
