4 <br /> Lancaster noted that there has also been discussion regarding acquiring land for the Grand <br /> Island Veteran's Cemetery. They are working to make it a state veteran's cemetery. Jay <br /> assisted with that RFI. <br /> Mr. Ponte would like the county board to proceed with the RFI. Since Don Shuda and Pam <br /> Lancaster sit on the board they ask that Mr. Quandt sign the RFI. <br /> 7. DISCUSS & TAKE ACTION ON RFI TO STATE OF NEBRASKA REGARDING VETERANS <br /> CLUB LEASE LAND — Quandt made a motion and Hurst seconded to submit the RFI for the <br /> leased 10.5 acres for the Veterans Club leased land. <br /> Hartman questioned if there were any building included and there are no building this is the <br /> parking lot behind the Veterans Club. <br /> The vote on the motion to approve the RFI for the 10.5 acres was taken. Hartman, Hurst, <br /> Lancaster, Quandt and Richardson all voted yes and none voted no. Bredthauer and Peterson <br /> were absent. Motion carried. <br /> Quandt made a motion and Hurst seconded to submit the RFI for the veterans home Lake <br /> Liberty. Hartman, Hurst, Lancaster, Quandt and Richardson all voted yes and none voted no. <br /> Bredthauer and Peterson were absent. Motion carried. <br /> Lancaster called for any other public participation and no one responded. <br /> 11. DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION TO APPROVE MAAA TOTAL BUDGET REQUEST <br /> Lancaster noted that MAAA was at the board meeting 4 weeks ago and requested the <br /> $19,125.00. This is the formula for $1.00 for every person 60 years or older. This was <br /> established in the 1960's but as the information was entered in the county budget this was not <br /> the correct total. Kim called MAAA and received a letter for the additional $30,005.00. The <br /> $19,125.00 goes directly to Senior Citizens. She noted that Senior Citizens was cut <br /> $100,000.00 last year. Theresa, Dana and Carl Hughes were present. Mr. Hughes thanked the <br /> County Board for their support in the past. Information regarding the meal count was distributed <br /> to the board. <br /> Lancaster noted that the "Older American Act" was started to help people stay in their homes <br /> and no one goes without a meal. The determined that meals companionship and exercise are <br /> important this helps senior to stay in their homes. They ask for a donation on what they can <br /> afford. She explained that the seniors check in with card and make a donation on what they can <br /> afford. Theresa noted the seniors are paying for their meds because they are in the donut hole <br /> and they are struggling. Senior Citizens is struggling to balance their budget. Dana stated she <br /> has been there 16 years and is having problems balancing the budget <br /> Quandt made a motion and Butch seconded to add $20,000.00 making a total of $90,000.00 for <br /> the support of nutrition. They will receive half of it when the budget is approved and the other <br /> half at the beginning of the calendar year. Senior Citizens will give the board a quarterly <br /> regarding how the dollars are spent. Lancaster noted that she did that with the dollars they <br /> received last fiscal year. <br /> Richardson expressed concern and asked if Dick or Butch had discussed this at MAAA and she <br /> stated she would like to hear from Senior Citizens. <br />
