DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING LETTER FROM HALL
COUNTY UNITED VETERANS CLUB - Quandt stated that when you walk out the door on the
west side of the Veteran's Club it is state property and there is a concern that this could change.
The county owns the Veterans Park and the land under the building but not the parking lot in the
back.
Mike Ponte 218 East 18th Street, Grad Island requested to address the board. He submitted a
letter noting that the land behind the club belongs to the State of Nebraska and the prior
administration at the state said they would give the land o the club. They currently have a 100
year lease on the land, but there is concern that they could cancel the lease. They Veteran's
Club is asking the county board to submit RFI for the 10.5 acres.
Lancaster also noted that there is the fishing pond (Lake Liberty) that they are interested in.
They could not hold the fishing derby this year because of this issue. They are not sure who
owns the pond.
Jay Vavricek also requested to address this issue he noted the community support for the
veterans and the Veterans Memorial Wall when it was here. The buildings are phase 2 and
they are not sure what will happen. Jay read the wording in the lease noting that it "gave
independence to operate freely without any potential landlord. He noted that this land should be
used to honor the veterans. He also noted that under the guidelines it gives political subdivision
priority for the redevelopment plans. He would like to see the fishing pond as attractive as Hall
county Pak.
