Peterson noted the decision was made without a plan there needs to be a solution. Bredthauer
noted these re good points and do not need to make hasty decision because it is budget time.
Hartman expressed concern on the timing and he would recommend cutting the wages and
leaving it where it is. Bredthauer stated they are not collecting enough fees.
Lancaster there would not be rights to a position. Max Boerson retired in 2010 and then Jackie
Hetrick at the Road Department did the paperwork because she had done it before. She
expressed concern the compensation was to be separate from the regular pay. It is separate
line item on the pay. She expressed concern on cutting the salary. Sarah stated that would not
be an issue. It needs to be in one location. The building inspector is a good program and this
would put it in one spot.
Hartman expressed concern needs to get back to basics have bigger issues.
Richardson made a motion and Hurst seconded to keep the conditional use permits at the
Building & Grounds Department.
Discussion was held on the compensation.
Bredthauer stated that the building inspector is out in the county driving around and this is the
best place for it and the building and grounds is spending time that is not addressing issues that
need to be addressed. Other counties have the building inspector do the conditional use
permits. Need to address the permit fees.
Lancaster noted that the fees collected do not always support the entire cost of a department.
The income that comes into the department is not theirs to spend.
Richardson noted that the 20 years will expire next year and we will be looking at the fees
today.
Discussion was held on the compensation. It will be set at $2,400.00.
Hartman made a motion and Bredthauer seconded to set the compensation at $2,400.00 and
they determine how it will be split the compensation. Hartman, Hurst, Lancaster, Quandt,
Peterson and Richardson all voted yeas and Bredthauer voted no. Motion carried.
The vote on the motion to leave the conditional use permits at the building & grounds
department. Hartman, Hurst, Peterson and Richardson voted yes. Bredthauer, Lancaster and
Quandt voted no. Motion carried.
7 C) DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION TO INCREASE FEES FOR CONDITIONAL USE
PERMITS - Discussion on the fees and now there is a maximum of 5 years for conditional use
permits.
Peterson stated it would make sense to charge so much per year. The annual cost would be
the same but the cost would be determined on the number of years and it would be paid up
front. He questioned what other counties are charging. Loran stated it varies from county to
county.
9
