Bredthauer noted that it has to be an architect because of the tax
credits and the county has to stay with the historical preservation of the Courthouse. Hartman
expressed concern on the money that is spent to hire them.
Bredthauer suggested if there was an outside fire escape maybe other people could help them
out and they would not have to sit in a special area.
Quandt noted that the board could work with the architect to decide on how to precede no one
can draw up the designs. Discussion was held on the fact that the architect for the ADA
entrance was able to address better way to do it.
Mr. Humphrey questioned how important is the Courthouse to the community? It is the
centerpiece of the community. They need to consider the functionality of the building and how
important is the building for the future.
Bredthauer noted that there are 12 to 13 trails a month with a jury and there will be about 80
people on that floor and that could increase.
Hartman noted the county has a letter from the fire department and questioned if they would
shut it down. Quandt stated they cannot walk away from the building and questioned how this
issue came up now.
Gary can't walk away from the building this did not happen why we were turned in
Mr. Peterson questioned if it would be necessary to request proposals. Lancaster stated this is
for professional services and it is not necessary.
The vote on the motion to hire Cannon Moss & Brygger Architects. Bredthauer, Hurst,
Lancaster, Quandt and Peterson all voted yes and Hartman and Richardson voted no. Motion
carried.
B) DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION APPROVING WINDOW SAMPLE FOR
COURTHOUSE - Mr. Humphrey stated that a window sample for the Courthouse is sitting in
place if the County Board members would like to see it.
5
