There were 4 late filings and the penalties have been assessed: <br /> American Legion Post#314 Wood River parcel 400076440 and 400176459 $200.00 late fees <br /> Head Start Child & Family parcel #400107155 $100.00 late fees <br /> Heartland Health Center personal property $300.00 late fee <br /> Iglesias Evangelica Bethania Penecostal parcel #400065932 $100.00 late fee <br /> Also included on the list were the applications that were not returned. They still have until June <br /> to send them in but they would be assessed a $600.00 penalty. <br /> Pelland stated that on Platte Valley Whooping Crane Trust she had granted exemption on a <br /> couple of properties and then they filed for 6 more and those were appealed to TERC and now <br /> she has received an additional 32 applications. She has approved the 2 that were previously <br /> granted but has denied the others. <br /> Chairman Arnold called for public participation and the following asked if there exemptions were <br /> approved <br /> Harvest Time Baptist Church County Assessor Jan Pelland recommended approval <br /> Salvation Army, before they received a partial exemption because there was a business renting <br /> space but that has changed and they now have a 100% exemption <br /> Platt-Duetsche Verein was approved for a 60% exemption <br /> The Elks Building Association was approved at 70% <br /> Collage Center personal property was approved <br /> Third City Christian Church was approved <br /> Order of Odd Fellows was approved <br /> Jordan Adam, Attorney for Platte River Whooping Crane Trust requested to address the board. <br /> They have 32 applications for consideration. They received exemptions on 2 properties and <br /> then applied for 6 more. Those are currently on appeal at TERC. The additional 32 properties <br /> are being used for charitable and educational purposes. It is a total of 4,100 acres. The <br /> property is open to the public and used for research. <br /> Richardson noted that some of the property is being lease to farmers and this is why the <br /> exemptions were not allowed. <br /> Mr. Adam stated that 50% of the property has been leased. They do have cattle ad bison <br /> grazing and he explained it is on a year to year basis and they also have row crops. They have <br /> a land management plan and the crops are vital to the roosting. <br /> Schuppan noted that this keeps coming up and they had stated in the past that they would <br /> always pay the taxes. They paid high dollars for the land and it is a huge amount of tax dollars. <br /> He questioned how they can lease the land and ask for an exemption. <br /> Mr. Adam stated they have a right to a hearing and this is allowed under the law. <br /> Lancaster asked about the 100% exemption even if it is leased. Mr. Jordan explained that there <br /> are land management plans in place that are vital and whether it is leased or not does not apply <br /> 2 <br />
