Title: Operations Lieutenant No. HCDC-1B-03(b) Page 3 of 5 <br /> SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> Manage subordinate staff. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and <br /> evaluation of subordinate staff and facility operations. Carries out supervisory <br /> responsibilities in accordance with the department's policies and applicable laws. <br /> Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training staff; planning, assigning, <br /> and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining staff; addressing <br /> complaints and resolving problems. <br /> PHYSICAL DEMANDS <br /> The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a <br /> Staff member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable <br /> accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the <br /> essential functions. <br /> While performing the duties of this job, Staff are regularly required to stand; walk; use <br /> hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, <br /> kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and smell. Staff are frequently required to sit. Staff <br /> must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more <br /> than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, <br /> distance vision, color vision,peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus. <br /> WORK ENVIROMENT <br /> The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a Staff <br /> member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable <br /> accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the <br /> essential functions. <br /> While performing the duties of this job, Staff may be required to use reasonable force <br /> during a disturbance or other emergency situations, be subjected to verbal abuse, threats <br /> to self and family, assault, and other forms of harassment from inmates, work unarmed <br /> and sometimes alone in the midst of groups of inmates. <br /> KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY AND SKILLS REQUIRED <br /> Lieutenants will be selected through a process involving oral and written skills, job <br /> performance and administrative recommendations. These will be acquired by a <br /> combination of structured classroom training, assigned training modules, annual in- <br /> service training, and on the job learning opportunities. Regular employee performance <br /> evaluations will be reviewed and discussed between the Lieutenant and Assistant <br /> Director. <br />
