Title: Shift Sergeant No. HCDC-1B-03(b) Page 2 of 5 <br /> • Manage and direct subordinate supervisors during operations on a day to day basis. <br /> Ensure shifts are adequately staffed and supervised. Ensure operations adhere to <br /> applicable laws, court orders, regulations and department polices. <br /> • Ensure quality of all documentation produced during jail operations. <br /> • Respond to and manage emergency situations taking appropriate actions. <br /> • Supervise and direct staff; complete performance evaluations of subordinate staff in a <br /> timely manner; review and compare work performances of subordinate staff with <br /> established standards to determine employee production levels, training needs and <br /> appropriate personnel actions; ensures that all subordinate staff comply with Code of <br /> Ethics and Code of Conduct to maintain a professional Department. <br /> • Confer with and advise other staff to exchange information on and/or explain <br /> policies, procedures and standards and to identify the characteristics of work <br /> problems and formulate possible solutions. <br /> • Investigate discipline and disturbance problems to gather facts to document, report <br /> and make recommendation regarding the problem; investigates allegations of <br /> misconduct of subordinate staff, prepares necessary reports, refers allegations of <br /> criminal behavior to the appropriate law authorities <br /> • May serve as Inmate Disciplinary Hearing Officer. Investigates discipline and <br /> disturbance problems to gather facts to document, report and make recommendations <br /> regarding the problem. <br /> • Ensures all policies and procedures on maintaining proper care, custody and control <br /> of inmates are followed. <br /> • Works in coordination with the Training Department to provide staff training for job <br /> duties in the facility. <br /> • Monitors all daily control documentation (inmate headcounts, cash reports, etc.) <br /> performed by their respective shifts. Performs shift coverage for assigned shift. <br /> • Monitors investigations, documentation, reports and video on incidents involving use <br /> of force to ensure compliance with applicable laws, court orders, regulations and <br /> department polices. <br /> • Recommends improvements to security procedures when appropriate. <br /> • Performs other duties as assigned. <br />
