• Memorials are down 88% <br /> • Fund raising is up 1.4% <br /> • Pet license are off 8% <br /> • Microchips off 70% <br /> These are clear indications that there are financial problems at the Humane Society there is a <br /> leadership issue in the area of donations and fund raising. They have to ask and be willing to <br /> thank people. <br /> Concern was expressed that there are economic issues and that needs to be addressed at the <br /> board level. The county agreement is critical and there are serious financial issues that need to <br /> be resolved. <br /> Lancaster expressed concern on the first 4 months of the year and the amount of fund raising <br /> but it could be a seasonal issue because additional fund raisers are held throughout the year. <br /> Considering the balance sheet there are concerns. She noted that they do not have a copy of <br /> the financials and it seems some revenues are down there is no information on the fund raisers <br /> and there may not be extra revenue so the donations are important. <br /> Randy Gard stated they are no asking for additional funding there needs to be a level of <br /> confidence. There are concerns and people are willing to help. The services are valuable. <br /> Gale Yenny noted the level of funding from donations 2015 at $225,000.00 2016 at $160,000.00 <br /> and 2017 at $75,000.00. Donations have dropped. <br /> Richardson noted that a line of credit is a common practice for the ebb and flow of businesses. <br /> This may have not been used before. <br /> Tammy Allen 807 E H Road Phillips, NE - stated that she was a former board member Donor, <br /> foster parent for 20 or 30 animals and has helped with vet medical equipment. They have a <br /> good staff but expressed concern that they have been losing staff. She expressed concern on <br /> the current operations and concern regard the current board. There have been complaints and <br /> concerns on the day to day business operations. There are concerns that the staff does not <br /> need what is necessary to care for the animals. She has concern with the board and the <br /> competency of running the shelter. <br /> Penny Muirhead 104 Ponderosa Drive thanked the board for the assistance to the shelter. <br /> She noted that that even though the facility hours changed the hours for the animal control <br /> hours did not change. They are doing a comprehensive review of the policies and they are <br /> working on a strategic plan and it will be available. She stated that she does not have any <br /> concerns that the facility might close and there is no problem with the contract to provide <br /> services. She stated that there has been a lien of credit since she started on the board and that <br /> is no uncommon for nonprofit agencies. In the past they had received large donations from <br /> some estates but those are not guaranteed and donations are not guaranteed. They have to <br /> watch the revenue streams and they are working on donations. If spending is unchecked and <br /> revenue declines that has to be watched. They have lots of volunteers that work and provide <br /> services and they are focusing on positive progress. She also noted that the staff concerns <br /> have not been brought to her and she will address these issues. <br /> 5 <br />
