Quandt made a motion and Arnold seconded to accept the single bid and refer it to the facilities <br /> committee for review and come back today with a recommendation. Arnold, Bredthauer, <br /> Lancaster, Lanfear, Quandt and Richardson all voted yes and none voted Schuppan was <br /> absent. Motion carried. <br /> Gale Yenny requested to address the board and noted the following concerns <br /> • Main concern is the animals <br /> • Issues regarding the staff not treating them well <br /> • Welfare of the organization <br /> • Number of animals euthanized are they caring for the animals or making room <br /> • Expressed concern on the working conditions and condition of the building <br /> • Questioned why the hours of operations were changed <br /> Discussion was held on the county contract and it does not address the hours of the facility. <br /> Lanfear stated that he talked to the Sheriff and he is satisfied with their work they have not failed <br /> to help and the calls are being answered. <br /> Jill Hornady 2323 West John Street stated she is not here because of the contract she is here <br /> because of the health of the organization. It is an important function of the county. She was <br /> involved in the fund raiser for the facility and it is sad to see where it is going. The employees <br /> are fearful for their jobs and the threat it is going to close jobs are hard to find. There needs to <br /> be a business plan to move it forward and they have done it once and can do it again. These <br /> are not personal issues it is about the health of the organization they need to work together to <br /> fix the problem. They have ask to come to the Humane Society board meeting and were met <br /> with hostility when they did come they were locked out of the building and had to wait outside. <br /> They did not want to share the financial information. The shelter is a community organization <br /> and it has taken a lot of people to get it where it is today. She also expressed concern about <br /> the hostile work environment that needs to be addressed. <br /> Lori Dethloff #21 Kuester's Lake noted that there is public concern about the shelter. They <br /> have served the community for 50 years and they had recently worked to review the animal <br /> codes and the state requirements. They tried to educate and enforce the regulations. She has <br /> heard frustration and concern about the interactions with the shelter. As a nonprofit they rely on <br /> donors and the volunteers and have to have this in order to viable and moving forward. It is not <br /> the old board versus the new board. They want to insure that the society will have the support <br /> that they need and do what it will take to regain the trust and respect that they had in prior <br /> years. In the past they had a state wide network ad national recognition. They need to need to <br /> consider the well-being of the staff, residents and the animals. <br /> Lancaster noted that she contacted them to remove a bat from her house and there was no <br /> charge but she made a donation. <br /> Randy Gard 3727 Meadow Way Trail noted that there are two points of importance what it does <br /> for the city and county and the ability to help animals. The financial agreements with the city <br /> and the county are very important. He noted the information from the first 4 month of the year <br /> and expressed concern. <br /> • Adoption revenue is down 21% <br /> • Kennel donations are down 89% <br /> 4 <br />
