Discussion was held and it was noted that HHS kept mentioning that the federal government <br /> can come in. He also noted that one of the letters mentioned the 205 East First Street address <br /> and that would be the old health department building. Discussion was held on the amount of <br /> square footage they are to have. <br /> Lancaster stated that this has been an ongoing discussion. She noted that she is involved has <br /> been involved in public transportation and there are requests from the community but the city <br /> does not have the money so they have to maintain status quo. Now it is portal to portal. The <br /> county also lost the cab tickets they do not exist anymore for public transportation. <br /> Lanfear stated that from this meeting he thinks they are trying to get action quickly but we need <br /> to step back and think about this for a while. He is not sure if they know what they want but they <br /> will hold us to a certain amount of square footage. <br /> Bredthauer questioned who will do the space study and Loran stated it will be done internally <br /> and it will only be the space they need for their staff. They also noted they may look at other <br /> cities. <br /> Mr. Humphrey stated they have 5900 square feet and they had used the basement for storage <br /> but it is empty now. They currently have 19 people in the building and they would only have 21 <br /> people in the future. <br /> Bredthauer noted that ADA is a federal regulation and it has to be ADA compliant. She also <br /> questioned how the federal building would not be secure when there were federal offices in <br /> there. Mr. Humphrey stated DHHS would not look at the Federal Building because of parking <br /> and security. He also stated that they have to stay in compliance with the National Park Service. <br /> Schuppan stated there needs to be more discussion and there are all new people and nothing <br /> seems to work we may have to appeal to some on else. <br /> Mr. Humphrey stated they want it to be assessable for their handicapped clients. <br /> Quandt questioned if they are looking for properties to rent could they force the county to rent it. <br /> Mr. Zitterkopf stated that in the current agreement it states the county is to provide space and is <br /> the county's obligation to provide for their needs and if they rent the county would pay for it. <br /> Lanfear stated they do not know what they want or need and Karen Haines is to come out and <br /> look at the building. They need to talk to the county board. <br /> Lancaster noted that this has been discussed for a long time and she thanked Mr. Humphrey for <br /> meeting with the state. We need to know the state requirements and we will comply with that. <br /> Mr. Zitterkopf read State Statute 68-130 that the county shall maintain office and service <br /> facilities this is dated April 1, 1983. They have the decision on the amount of square footage <br /> that they require. <br /> Quandt suggested that this be on the agenda for the next meeting. <br /> Arnold made a motion and Quandt seconded to request that the County Attorney review the <br /> State Statute regarding what the county is required to provide for DHHS.
