Mr. Humphrey stated that he received the request for the conditional use permit for the paint ball <br /> fields. It is a for profit business. He showed pictures of the area and they have a location in <br /> e p p y <br /> Amherst Nebraska. He talked to some of the residents and they are pleased with the operation <br /> and hold birthday parties and people go to the park to shoot the paintball guns. The property is <br /> owned by Robert Garcia and they lease the property from him. <br /> Lanfear stated that he looked at the property and he used to shoot paint ball with his son. He <br /> talked to Casey and there may be some increased traffic but he did not think it would be a <br /> problem. <br /> Mr. Ed Poorman the owner of the company was present. He stated they cater to kids 12 and <br /> older and provide a good activity for kids. They have a 5 star rating and he stated he has <br /> participated in the sport for many years and was a professional player a National and European <br /> champion and a coach. It is a good game and he wanted to start a facility here. He stated he <br /> would like to open the facility this weekend. They have restrooms available and have hosts to <br /> greet people and even though it is not handicapped assessable they will assist them and move <br /> them around the fields. <br /> Bredthauer asked if the area is fenced in and Mr. Poorman stated that they have a 12 foot tall <br /> fenced and the entire area is fenced in. They have 4 fields that are 150 x 200 feet and they do <br /> not anticipate that any of the paint balls will escape. They also have netting to protect the <br /> staging area and will have a small building to hold the equipment and may consider enlarging <br /> the building later. They will be moving the building to the location today. They will be closing <br /> the Amherst facility because of the location. <br /> Chairman Lancaster called for public participation. <br /> Bruce Reeder, 6720 Wiseman Road, Shelton, NE stated that if it all goes as planned there may <br /> not be problems. But he has properties close to the fields and expressed concern regarding the <br /> possibility of participants shooting farm vehicles or road signs. He also note that this is low <br /> ground and questioned if there would be parking on the county roads <br /> Chairman Lancaster called for public participation. <br /> Mr. Poorman stated that they cater to first time players and they are instructed that shooting <br /> other property is not acceptable and if that would happen they would stop it. They do not want a <br /> bad reflection to the company so players are taught to be careful. They want to be an asset <br /> instead of a liability. The paint is water soluble and they did not have a problem in Amherst and <br /> there were no complaints. Most people do not have their own guns because the equipment is <br /> expensive. They provide the equipment when someone is playing the course. <br /> As far as the parking is concerned they have 22 acres and there is ample parking. They have a <br /> permit to enlarge the entrance and that will be addressed this week. They are working on <br /> putting gravel on the parking area. <br /> The board asked what the hours will and he stated that they are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They <br /> want to allow ample time for people to play so they do not take anyone after 6:00 p.m. <br /> Lanfear stated that people spoke highly of him in Amherst they did a good job and were a good <br /> neighbor.
