Gary expressed concern on the holes that were made in the walls. Mr. Zitterkopf needs space
and he understands the additional bathrooms but you do not have to demo a building to move
people.
Richardson replied that it is easy to be critical but there is no input they would like some ideas.
Quandt noted you do not have to tear out all of the walls why can't there be fresh paint and
carpet. They do not have to do everything the architect recommends.
Arnold stated that there are not productive ideas from the opposition there needs to be a
consensus from the board. They have had the plans and just received the costs.
Bredthauer noted that the county has a lot of needs and Berggren brought that out but we have
to look at the dollars. She expressed concern spending $300,000.00 and tearing out walls that
are not that old. She suggested giving the entire floor to the county attorney add the ADA
bathrooms and security doorways and try to save some money.
Lanfear agreed that the dollar amount is high but he has a problem giving the entire floor and
adding the bathrooms. He does wants to keep the project moving and they may need to take
another look.
Schuppan agreed they need to look at it and discuss it again.
Richardson stated they need to discuss it with the committee and consider what would be the
most effective use of space. They are not making a decision now.
Berggren noted that we are the only county that has a surplus of space.
Arnold expressed concern giving more space than needed they need to see what the study
shows and how the space can be best used. They have to have offices that are compatible in
the same building.
Bredthauer also noted that there is limited parking at the Federal Building.
Richardson stated that the county hires these people and we spend good money we need to
keep in mind that they might know what they are talking about.
Lancaster noted that the restrooms need to be added and if they can use the entire floor that
may be acceptable. You do not want to add improvements if no one is occupying the space.
She asked that the committee consider the Berggren study it is a 20 year plan. She would
appreciate considering other options. If the walls were in the same place could there be some
acoustical issues addressed. She stated she appreciates the information on the costs and
giving the attorney's more space makes sense. This will come back in 2 weeks.
Arnold noted that there needs to be consideration how work flows. Sometime walls can save
money and there needs to be consideration on the heating and air.
Lancaster noted the federal government has a proposed plan we need to continue doing it. The
county has the opportunity to address our needs.
6
