It was noted that the federal government updated the heating system and it is acclimated to the
current space.
County Attorney Jack Zitterkopf stated that Ms. Richardson put in a lot of work to acquire the
Federal Building and part of that application was to designate a use for the building. He stated
he proposed the idea to use it for child support and he contacted an architect. Now he has
been beat up because he did that. When a district judge wants a $200,000.00 dysfunctional
ceiling they get it and when he asks for$400,000.00 for needed space that is out of the
question. He wants to have a functional office where private discussion can be held. There is
also a misconception that the architect will receive more money the higher to cost but that is not
the case it is set at $60,000.00 and that is what it is. The engineering fees are also included if
you spend the money to have them do the work and then do not follow the plan there may not
be an architect in Grand Island that will do business with the county.
Jack stated that he has used all the space available in his building and cannot hire another
attorney. In the future they will need to expand and there is no more space. This building is an
investment for the next 50 years.
Bredthauer stated that this is not personal against Jack. She understands there needs to be
more space to allow for expansion. But this is not the only need Berggren has noted a lot of
needs and they need to look for another answer and put be able dollars in another project.
Quandt stated they do not a dysfunctional office but they need to save dollars. He expressed
concern about removing walls and asked if they could be sound proofed. This will also affect
the heating and fire system.
Lancaster stated the committee is doing a good job and they did not know the cost but they
need to see if there are other options.
CE EVALUATION - 12:58 p.m. Richardson made a
10.
