The board did a
good job picking him.
Lancaster noted that Alan discovered a computerized program that is available for him to use.
Quandt stated he has worked hard and having a building inspector will make Hall County better.
16. DISCUSSION REGARDING LIBRARY SERVICES FOR CITIZENS OUTSIDE CITY OF
GRAND ISLAND—Quandt stated that he has had some phone calls regarding county residents
that have to purchase library cards. He would like to set up a committee to see what the cost
would be to provide library cards to people outside of the city limits.
Schuppan stated that he has had 2 phone calls in 6 years and did not see that it is a big
concern. Schuppan stated we may get phone calls now.
Richardson stated that it does affect half of her district. She would like to be on the committee.
Lancaster noted that because of the metropolitan area she questioned if the City of Grand
Island would support a portion of the fees.
Purdy also noted an individual that had moved and now doesn't have to pay the card fee but
now has to pay the city taxes.
Quandt stated that the only way it will move forward will be if the county addresses the issue
and moves forward. The county needs to take a leadership role.
Arnold stated the first step is to ask the library how many people have cards. He noted that he
uses the auditable books and enjoys them.
Richardson stated that the library has a lot of good things to offer and she would like to see the
number of people that have cards.
16.
