Mr. See stated they are getting by but need <br /> another office and maybe one more and classroom space for programming <br /> Lancaster expressed concern on the grant dollars and asked if the funds would be available. <br /> Mr. See stated these funds are for juvenile probation and not juvenile diversion and they can be <br /> used. <br /> Lanfear stated this is for adult probation and there are some plans and rough numbers. He <br /> stated that after looking at the numbers it would be financially better to move adult probation. <br /> They currently occupy 60% of the space in the County Office Building. <br /> Mr. Zitterkopf stated that if juvenile diversion was located in the Plaza Building they would not <br /> occupy the same area where adult probation is doing drug testing and it is disconcerting having <br /> young people using the same bathrooms and having contact with adults. Juvenile diversion <br /> also does drug testing. <br /> Gary looking at all aspects with what the county can do with this building and he thinks it is too <br /> early to take a vote today. This is the first the board has heard of this and they need to have the <br /> other departments come to the board. <br /> Lanfear stated he talked to Jerry Piccolo and thought he would be at the meeting, point taken. <br /> Schuppan stated he is in favor of moving probation and they will have more space once the <br /> leases run out. The board has been talking about this for 3 or 4 months it is the board's <br /> decision and this needs to get done. There was a time line and they are still behind. <br /> Richardson stated that she was not here on the first decision and they have been working for a <br /> long time but she would like to see some hard numbers. <br /> Arnold the biggest change was that the county was told probation could not move because <br /> there wasn't enough room but when the leases expire there will be more space. The county <br /> now has Connie Hultine as the chief probation officer and she thinks it is sufficient space and <br /> there will be room to grow once the leases terminate. There would be additional space for the <br /> public defender and juvenile diversion in the office building once probation moves. He thinks <br /> this would be a better fit for probation. <br /> Quandt stated he would like to talk to Connie Hultine and have more information. <br /> The vote on the motion to move the probation office to the Plaza building was taken. Arnold, <br /> Lanfear, Purdy and Schuppan voted yes Lancaster abstained and Quandt and Richardson <br /> voted no. Motion carried. <br /> 10. DISCUSS AND APPROVE APPOINTMENTS TO GIAMPO (GRAND ISLAND AREA <br /> METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION) COMMITTEE —Arnold stated that he placed <br /> Pam Lancaster on the committee but it would be a conflict of interest so he stated that he would <br /> serve on the committee and retain Gary Quandt. <br /> 5 <br />
