<br />DISCUSSION OF SAFETY COMMITTEE PURCHASES: Ed Saeger from the
<br />Corrections Department and Charles Kaufman from the Parks
<br />Department, members of the Safety Committee, and Sheriff Terrill
<br />Perkins discussed with the Board the importance of being able to
<br />purchase needed items and questioned when there are funds
<br />allocated for particular departments and committees. Hartman
<br />made the motion and Lancaster seconded that Appointed Department
<br />Heads can make their necessary purchases of less than $2,500.00
<br />without Board approval until the County Attorney has time to
<br />review the law, as to the purchasing authority of a non-elected
<br />official. Abernethy, Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, Long, Quandt,
<br />and Stelk all voted yes. Motion carried.

<br />Recommendation of the Bid for the Maintenance Overlay Project
<br />from Dan Hostler, Public Works Department Director. The bid from
<br />Gary Smith Construction for $231,399.00 (Exhibit D) has been
<br />accepted. Hartman made the motion and Quandt seconded that the
<br />County accept the bid from Gary Smith Construction. Abernethy,
<br />Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, Long, Quandt, and Stelk all voted
<br />yes. Motion carried.

<br />DISCUSSION REGARDING CASA: Stelk, asked that the Board send a
<br />letter to the CASA Board asking for authorization of County
<br />representation of two County Board members to serve on the CASA
<br />Board. Motion was made by Stelk and seconded by Hartman to
<br />authorize such a letter of request. Abernethy, Hartman,
<br />Lancaster, Landis, Long, Quandt, and Stelk all voted yes. Motion
<br />carried.

<br />DISCUSSION C.V.B. BOARD MEMBER: Stelk noted that there have been
<br />four resumes for the Board Member position. Stelk moved to have
<br />the interviews on October 7, 1997, at 7:00 p.m., and it was
<br />seconded by Lancaster. Abernethy, Hartman, Lancaster, Landis,
<br />Long, Quandt, and Stelk all voted yes. Motion carried.
<br />
<br />An executive session was discussed regarding the claim withheld
<br />last week. Motion was made by Stelk and seconded by Lancaster,
<br />but the Board was informed by the County Attorney that entering
<br />one was not necessary. No vote was taken.
<br />
<br />There were no Board of Equalization, Office Reports, or
<br />Miscellaneous Receipts for this week's Board meeting.

<br />COMMUNICATIONS: Stelk moved to accept the Communications and
<br />place them on file. It was seconded by Quandt. Abernethy,
<br />Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, Long, Quandt, and Stelk all voted
