Abernety, Hartman, Lancaster, Long, Quandt and Stelk <br />all voted yes and none voted no. Landis abstained. Motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />VIOLA EWOLDT HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION: Don Ewoldt spoke to the board <br />on the homestead exemption request for Viola Ewoldt. He pointed <br />out that the rejection notice for the homestead exemption was <br />mailed to 2110 West IS, Grand Island, not the address in Florida <br />where Viola was living, so she did not receive the rejection <br />notice. The notice was dated September 13, 1996, and she would <br />have had 30 days to appeal the rejection. Pelland stated she did <br />not have any other address except the Grand Island address. <br />Pelland talked to legal counsel in Lincoln and they stated the <br />Board did not have the authority to reverse the denial. <br />Janulewicz read State Statute 77-1734.01 regarding real estate <br />tax refunds. The request is submitted to the County Treasurer and <br />the County Assessor verifies that an error or mistake was made. <br />The claim is then submitted to the County Board for payment. <br />Hartman made a motion and Abernethy seconded to have Mr. Ewoldt <br />file a claim for the refund of the taxes he paid. Landis stated <br />the assessor did send notice and complied with the law. Hartman <br />called for the question. Abernethy, Hartman, Lancaster, Long, <br />Quandt and Stelk all voted yes and Landis voted no. Motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />Hartman made an amendment to his motion to approve the agreement <br />with Mid-Nebraska Individual Services not Mid-Plains. Stelk <br />seconded the motion. Abernethy, Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, <br />Long, Quandt and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no. Motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />JEAN FISHER - PURCHASE NEW PRINTER: Jean Fisher, Register of <br />Deeds, requested permission to purchase a new IBM heavy duty <br />printer for her office. The cost of the printer would be <br />$3,500.00 and this would be taken from her budget. Janulewicz <br />stated that this was from the state bid. Quandt made a motion <br />and Abernthy seconded to authorize Jean Fisher to purchase the <br />printer. Abernethy, Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, Long, Quandt and <br />Stelk all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> <br />RECYLING BINS FOR HALL COUNTY: Hartman made a motion and <br />Abernethy seconded to place recyling bins for paper and cans in <br />the building. Abernethy, Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, Long, <br />Quandt and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no. Motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />Jan Pelland, County Assessor, returned with the amount of the <br />real estate taxes for the Ewoldt property. The total tax was <br />$1,332.34 and he would have paid $666.17. She would have to make <br />a tax list correction to lower the valuation or the new owner <br />would still owe taxes.
