There <br /> is also a letter from the US Fish and Wildlife in the information provided by Mr. Adam. <br /> Gregg Robb with Fire District#6 expressed concern an the limited access to fight fires. He <br /> acknowledged that there are limits on roads with locked gates and there are no structures back <br /> there. He supports this at status quo and expressed concern that with the gate it could cause a <br /> traffic hazard. <br /> Mr. Amick stat�d that there are a number of citizen that do drive the area to view the deer, <br /> turkey , pheasants and other wildlife and they do not want this lost. There are issues of dumping <br /> and trespassing in rural areas. He also noted the 23 sheriff calls in the last 5 years and the <br /> other roads that have gated property. <br /> Mr. Sherlock stated that the actual name of the island is South Island on Elm Island Road. <br /> Discussion was held on the maintenance of the road. An agreem�nt on the maintenance could <br /> be worked out. <br /> Discussion was held on the placement of the gate if it was to be at Highway #281 or stay at the <br /> curr�nt location. <br /> McFarland they may not want a home out there because af the pristine nature of the property <br /> but there is a land owner and he has rights. <br /> Mr. Amick noted that there is a problem with littering on county roads and the gate is not an <br /> impediment to fighting fires. They want to secure their praperty in the same manner as other <br /> property owners and they do not have a problem retaining the easement to avoid problems in <br /> the future. He is urging to gate and lock the road off of Highway #281 there is no reason to <br /> have it open you are just giving into vandals <br /> Mr. Quandt questioned who would put up the gate and who would own it. Mr Sherlock <br /> suggested that it would be their gate on their property but the county would have access. <br /> Attorney Jordan Adam stated that he did not have a problem with Casey's suggestion. <br /> Francis Hannon has the other half of Elm Island Road and h� asked if they were to haul hay <br /> would they have to open the gate and close it behind them. No one responded. <br /> Ziola made a mation and Quandt seconded to close the public hearing. Arnold, Lancaster, <br /> McFarland, Purdy, Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola all voted yes and none voted na.
