Mr. Sidders also expressed concern about the elimination of the w�ed department <br /> employees and questioned haw they intend ta manage without employ�es to follow the state <br /> statutes. He also stated that the rural area only has one representative on the county <br /> board. <br /> Mr. Ziola stated that he is elected for District#1 and his decision are always with Hall County <br /> in mind not just District 1. <br /> Lancaster called for public participation. <br /> Francis Hannon stated that he is the chair of the weed board and he noted that the weed <br /> board addresses a number of little issues before it comes to the caunty board. He noted <br /> the fact that the weed department has sprayed the river beds from border to border in Hall <br /> County and this will help prevent flooding. He noted that the department has to be in close <br /> contact with the people they wark with they have to make sure that the complaints are <br /> handled. They have good employees and he expressed concern an how the public will be <br /> able to get the small patches of weeds sprayed when they need it. The weed department <br /> can do these small jobs. He also noted that the department has excellent equipm�nt and <br /> expressed concern if the board gets rid of it how would it be replaced if it is needed in the <br /> future. He encouraged the board to think beyond the dallar signs and to seriously consider <br /> this. <br /> Lancaster stated that the board appreciates the years of service and the fact that the weed <br /> board wauld serve without pay. The board knows there will be extra duties and they will not <br /> take the decision lightly. <br /> Mr. Hannon also noted the spraying jobs that the department does and this is revenue to the <br /> county. <br /> Mr. Schuppan stated the he represents the rural area and stated that the county needs to get <br /> out of business that the public can do. The county will still have the equipment and will do <br /> the inspections and follow-up on the complaints. <br /> Mr. Hannon expressed concern on how one person was to manage all of duties including the <br /> Howard County contract. Mr. Schuppan stated that they need to look at what is best for all <br /> of Hall County. <br /> Lancaster called far public participation. <br /> Karen Hancock stated she owns acreage and she relies on th� weed department to do her <br /> spraying. They are professionals and ar� knowledg�able af the chemicals that need to be <br /> used. She expressed concern that private companies may not have the knowledge. <br /> Lancaster called far public participation. <br /> Diane Muhlbach stated she lives at the end of Old Potash Highway and is a land owner that <br /> has fought noxious weeds. She appreciates the weed department and expressed concern <br /> on who is going ta enforce spraying the small patches of weeds. The department has the <br /> equipment for pastures and small areas. She stated she understands the budget process <br /> 3 <br />
