3 <br /> Lancaster called for discussion. She stated she appreciated the recommendation from the <br /> County Treasurer but in the past they have made it a practice to open up the positions for <br /> applications. Arnold also agreed to open it up for application. <br /> Purdy noted that February 12 would be the 45 day, so the decision would need to be made by <br /> January 31 Discussion was held to hold the interviews in an evening meeting. <br /> Stacey noted that this will receive media attention and she suggested a meeting the week of <br /> January 23 and make the final decision on the January 31 meeting. The applications could <br /> be received until January 20 <br /> Quandt noted that the chief deputy is leaving February 24 so it is important to allow some <br /> training time. He stated that he would like to see an evening meeting held for the interviews. <br /> Lancaster stated this is a huge issue with both of them retiring at the same time. <br /> Discussion was held to receive the letters of interest until the 20 of January but they may have <br /> to screen the applications to have a manageable number to interview. Discussion was held to <br /> have a committee screen the applications. Mr. Zitterkopf stated that it wouldn't be appropriate <br /> for a committee to screen to a certain number a part of the board would be taking formal action <br /> without the full board participating. Amold suggested two meetings. <br /> Mr. McFarland stated that as the most recent appointed member he suggested to accept the <br /> letter's of interest and do the interviews a week later. Lancaster expressed concern on the <br /> number of application that may be received. <br /> Ziola stated that we need to see how many letters of interest are received and do the screening <br /> and the interviews at a public meeting. <br /> Stacey suggested receiving applications until January 20 at noon and then that afternoon hold <br /> a meeting to review the applications, send letters to the applicants for interviews on January <br /> 26 <br /> Arnold made a motion and Schuppan seconded to receive letters of interest until January 20 at <br /> noon and hold a public meeting January 20 at 1:00 p.m. to review the letters of interest and <br /> hold the interviews on January 26 at 5:00 p.m. <br /> Discussion was held on the letters. The board will accept letters of interest, resumes, personal <br /> references and no more than 5 letters of support from the applicants. <br /> Quandt questioned if when the person is appointed when they would start and could they come <br /> earlier for training. Mr. Zitterkopf stated that you cannot have two elected officials. The <br /> candidate could be an unpaid observer. Discussion was held on the list of questions and it was <br /> decided to send the questions out to everyone. It was suggested to submit the answers in <br /> writing. <br /> The vote on the motion to set the dates was taken. Arnold, Lancaster, McFarland, Purdy, <br /> Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola all voted yes and none voted no.
