Mr. Ruiz thanked Loran Humphrey building and grounds director for assisting with the
mowing. They completed the job in 2 hours instead of the 6 hours that it usually
takes them to mow it. Hopefully they will be able to mow every other week
Quandt questioned if there are mental health issues at the jail and Mr. Ruiz stated that
that is a big problem. They had a couple of suicide attempts this weekend and two in
the first part of June. They are usually drug or alcohol related mental health problems. It
will not get any Tess because people are not getting the mental health services that they
need.
Lancaster noted that there is now a mental health component at the corrections
department and this has helped with the EPC costs. Mr. Ruiz stated that education is
also important.
Ziola noted that law enforcement is intercepting the mental health cases and they are
coming directly to the hospital or a mental health facility.
Arnold noted that it was a long process closing the mental health facilities so there hasn't
been a dramatic increase. The mental health component at the jail is a big advantage.
They receive the help they need and then are referred for services on an outpatient
basis.
Mr. Ruiz stated that they do have success stories they leave with a treatment plan and
with a supply of the necessary medications.
EXECUTIVE SESSION — Arnold made a motion and Ziola seconded to go into executive
session. This executive session is to protect needless harm or injury to an individual.
Arnold, Lancaster, Purdy, Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola all voted yes and none voted no.
Jeffries was absent. Motion carried. Count y Attorney Jack Zitterkopf was asked to be
included in the executive session.
10:38 a.m. executive session
11:15 a.m. Amold made a motion and Schuppan seconded to go out of executive
session.
