University faculty member occurs on the 31st day of August following his or her sixty-fifth birthday, or at the close of any academic year thereafter. Until Jut, 1 , 1982, retirement at this age shall be mandatory for all tenured faculty members. Effective July 1, 1982, mandatory retirement shah occur on the 31st day of August following the faculty member`s seventieth bir~day unless o.her- wise specified by federal law or unless special provision to the ~trary is approved in advance by the Board of Governors.
