202401629 <br />11.06 Aggregate for ABX (Modified) Concrete. Shall be as specified in Section <br />1033 "Aggregates" of the most current Nebraska Department of Roads specifications <br />with below noted additions. <br />It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to submit test results <br />conforming to ASTM C295 that indicate the aggregate to be used in ABX Modified <br />concrete is non-reactive with the alkalis in cement. If the results of this test are not <br />conclusive, then results shall be submitted that conform to ASTM C227 (Mortar Bar) <br />which remove all doubt as to the acceptability of the aggregate for Portland cement <br />concrete. <br />These results must be submitted prior to any concrete being used from any <br />source of aggregate. New test results must be submitted each time the aggregate <br />comes from a new source or for each 700 cubic yards of concrete poured. <br />In the event that non-reactive aggregate is not available, the Contractor will <br />not be allowed to use the sand -gravel mix but will be required to use 47-B Modified <br />Portland cement concrete as specified in these specifications under section entitled <br />Cement - 47-B (Modified) and ABX (Modified) Concrete. <br />11.07 Granular Foundation Course. The granular materials shall be sand from local <br />pits that are shown on the plans, or it may be a coarse sand, fine sand, loamy soil, or <br />any mixture of any of these materials that conforms to the following requirements: <br />Minimum Maximum <br />Total Percent Retained on #200 Sieve 80 92 <br />Plasticity Index 6 <br />11.08 Joint Filler. Joint filler shall consist of premoulded bituminous fiber uniformly <br />impregnated with between 35% and 50% durable asphalt by weight and be furnished in <br />strips of the dimensions specified in the plans. A one (1) inch thick sample when <br />compressed to 50% of original thickness at rate of 1/10 inch per minute and released <br />shall show at least 70% recovery within one hour after compression and shall not have <br />required more than 500 pounds per square inch compression load and extrusion of not <br />more than 1/8 inch. <br />11.09 Joint Sealing Material. The hot pour joint material shall be of the rubber - <br />asphalt type and shall be melted in a double jacket kettle equipped with an agitator for <br />stirring the material during melting and pouring. The rubber -asphalt shall meet Federal <br />Specification SS -S-164 or subsequent revisions. <br />11.10 Curing Compound. The curing compound shall consist of a nonbituminous <br />pigmented liquid conforming to AASHTO Designation M148-49 or subsequent revisions. <br />SECTION 12 - CONSTRUCTION METHODS <br />12.01 Clearing and Grubbing. Except for trees, shrubs, and grasses which are to <br />be preserved as indicated on the plans or as designated by the Engineer, all trees, <br />stumps, hedges, shrubs, weeds, grass, other herbaceous vegetation, and rubbish shall <br />be removed from the right-of-way and from borrow pits furnished by the contracting <br />authority. This work shall be classified as follows: <br />Clearing shall consist of the cutting, removal, and disposal of trees six (6) <br />inches or more in diameter. <br />2-2 <br />Page 11 of 25 <br />
