<br /> presided � t the meeting , he being a I•Zinister and an Elder in the United
<br /> Methodist Church , and District Superintendent of the East Central
<br /> District , IJebraeka Annual Conierence , United t�Iethodist Church . Dr .
<br /> ! t4urphy had previou3ly designated Dr . James S . Chubb to preside in his
<br /> absence , but Dr . Murphy h.ad found it possible to be present peroonally
<br /> after aZl . �sther J . 5anders served as secretary oi such meeting .
<br /> Dr . I�Iurphy stated that , pursuant to The Book of Discipline of
<br /> The United f�Iethodist Church , 1968 , tivith respect to the sale of real es -
<br /> tate where the proceeds are to be used for a specific purpose , proper
<br /> notice of this meeting , which is being held in the I,ower Sanctuary of
<br /> said Church , and of iis purpose , lvas given for not less than ton days
<br /> nor more than fifty days prior to the date of this neeting , as required
<br /> , ; by The Book of Discipline of The United I4ethodist Church , and the Re -
<br /> vieed 5tatutes of Nebraska , by due notice nublished in the March 1 ,
<br /> 1g73 , monthly issue of ° Trinity Tidi.ngs " , mailed to all mettbers of the
<br /> Church , and by due notice published �.n the Church bulletins for each of
<br /> the regular Church services on the following three Sundays , February 25 ,
<br /> 1973 , 2�tarch 4 , 1973 , and hlarch 11 , 1973 , and the following three I�Iondays ,
<br /> February 26 , 197j , P�Iarch 5 , i973 , and P�tarch 12 , 1973 , and also by an-
<br /> nouncements from the pulpit by a hiinister of said Church at eech of such
<br /> � ' services , and also by posting on the bulletin boards oi said Church on
<br /> each of said Sundays and I�londays .
<br /> Dr . I��urphy then called upon Dr . James S . Chubb , a I�Iinister of
<br /> said Church , to first give the background history of the resolution
<br /> which he will present . Dr . Chubb stated that it concerned the sale of
<br /> a small Church located at 1021 Vlest 7th Street , in Grand Island , Nebraska ,
<br /> and it was formerly ueed b� one of the colored Churches in this city
<br /> known as St . Paul ' s I•iethodist Episcopal Church of Grand Island , PTebraska .
<br /> r = This property was sold to the trustees of said Church and their succes -
<br /> � ,i 3ors in of*ice by Ira T . Paine , who eras formerly Chairman o £ the Official
<br /> Iloard of the Fzrst I�iethodist Episcopal Church i.n Grand Island , Iiebraska ,
<br /> ' t��hich later united �•rith the Trinity i•Iethodist Church and is now Irnoem as
<br /> ' Trinity United i4ethodist Church of Grand Island , Nebraska . The v�arranty .
<br /> deed vras dated and acirnowledged on September 14 , 1914 , filed on
<br /> September 15 , 1914 , and recorded in Book 49 , at �age 19fl , of Deeds , in
<br /> the Office of the Register of Deeds , Hall County , IJebraska . Ne stated
<br /> that St . Paul ' s I�iethodist Episcopal Church of Gra ^_d Island , ttebraska ,
<br /> was a member of the Central Ulest Conference oi the Central Jurisdiction
<br /> of �he I�Iethodist Episcopal Church , and that said Conference �vas joined
<br /> with and into the South Central Jurisdiction Conference of the I�lethodist
<br /> Church ; that the menbership became so small that just four nenbers re -
<br /> mained ; that its District Superintendent in St . Louis , T�iissouri , author-
<br /> ized two of said members , Daniel Gates , Chairman of its Board of Trustees ,
<br /> and hi� wiie , Gertrude Gates , Secretary oi said Church , to havo their
<br /> pronerty taken over by Trinity I�Iethodist Church , now Trinity United
<br /> I4ethodist Church of Grand Island , ?debraska , who v;as to dispose of the
<br /> property and send a suostantial s�are of the proceeds to St . Paul ' s
<br /> I�lethodist Seminary , at Kansas City , I�Iissouri . "r'urther , I•Ir . and P�trs .
<br /> Uates are now nembers oi Trinity United I�lethodist Church oi Grand Island ,
<br /> Ilebraska . The other members of the Negro Church when it disoanded , in
<br /> addition to the Gates , were :•1rs . Gates ' sister , Alda Gunn , and Wheeler
<br /> Blair , r_ow deceased .
<br /> r It was further stated by Dr . Chubb that on April 21 , 1g65 , the
<br /> Church entered into an agreement to sell said property to Revival Center ,
<br /> oi Grand Island , Plebraska , vrhich is now incorporated , for the sum of
<br /> 55 , 500 . �0 , and � 4 , 000 . 00 was borrowed on the strength of this contract , � = � ` '
