Logan stated that the board members should use their own discretion on <br />using board stationery. <br /> <br />BID OPENING ASPHALT PROJECT: The public works committee reviewed the bids <br />recommended to accept the low bid from Gary Smith Construction in the amount of <br />$109,741.10 for the Stuhr Road project and $105,819.00 for the Guenther Road project. <br />Jeffries made a motion and Landis seconded to award the bid to Gary Smith <br />Construction. Arnold, Hartman, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster, Landis and Logan all <br />voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried <br /> <br />DISCUSS MAITENANCE ISSUES: Hartman stated that the building and grounds <br />department director Chuck Kaufman should be contacted and informed of any and all <br />projects that will be taking place in the county buildings. He requested that the board <br />send a letter to all of the county officials informing them of this procedure. Landis made <br />a motion and Jeffries seconded to authorize the chair to sign a letter instructing the <br />department heads to contact Building & Ground Director Chuck Kaufman concerning <br />any projects in the county buildings. . Arnold, Hartman, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster, <br />Landis and Logan all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried <br /> <br />BOARD ASSISTANT'S REPORT: Stacey Ruzicka reminded the board member of 4H <br />recognition and achievement program. She also stated that Sandi Yoder provided <br />assistance with the historical preservation and the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant <br />and she would like to send a letter thanking her for her assistance. The board approved <br />this letter. She also received a letter requesting a county board member attend a <br />steering committee meeting regarding the assessment of human service needs in the <br />community. Hartman appointed Scott Arnold or Bob Humiston to attend this meeting. <br /> <br />BOARD MEMBER'S REPORTS: Logan - He attended career day at Fonner Park and <br />reported that the Durant Group that is doing the long-range planning study on the county <br />jail. They will be here this week to collect more information. The long-range planning <br />committee will meet October 13. <br /> <br />Jeffries - He attended career day, the extension board meeting and reported that they <br />are experimenting with a sample plot of onions in Hall County. It would take 600 acres <br />of land to produce enough onions for the onion factory in Hall County. <br /> <br />Lancaster - She also attended career day at Fonner Park and the policy council meeting <br />at HeadStart. She is also attending the training at the law enforcement-training center. <br /> <br />Arnold - He also attended career day, a computer meeting and the library board <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Humiston - He attended the map-sifter seminar at City Hall and this was an interesting <br />session. <br /> <br />Landis - She questioned if the City and County were going to give the health department <br />direction on acquiring a new building. They discussed the use of the Old City Hall <br />Building for county offices. The county needs additional building space. The long-range <br />planning committee will meet October 13. Logan stated that the long-range planning <br />study will address the feasibility of using the old City Hall Building and he would like to <br />wait until the study is done before anything is done.
