Arnold, Eriksen, Hartman, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster <br />and Logan all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. Mr. Amick stated that the <br />check would be issued this week. <br /> <br />11 AUTHORIZE THE CHAIR TO SIGN PLAN DOCUMENTS FOR HARTFORD <br />DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN: County Clerk Marla Conley stated that County <br />Attorney Jerry Janulewicz is reviewing the documents and has some questions on them <br />so this item should be addressed later. Chairman Hartman pulled the item from the <br />agenda for more information. <br /> <br />14 DISCUSSION ON RAILROAD ABANDONMENT OF THE HANSEN LINE: Hartman <br />stated that the county received another letter concerning the abandonment of this <br />railroad and he suggested that the county send a letter stating that the county does not <br />have a problem with closing the line. Lancaster made a motion and Jeffries seconded to <br />send a letter regarding the abandonment of the Hansen Railroad Line. Arnold, Eriksen, <br />Hartman, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster and Logan all voted yes and none voted no. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />10 DISCUSS AND APPROVE GRANT APPLICATION FOR JUVENILE SERVICES: <br />Lancaster stated that the juvenile services committee met regarding the grant <br />application. Troy Chandler, Todd Usury and Carroll Brown were present to discuss the <br />changes. Troy Chandler stated that this is the third year of funding for the juvenile <br />accountability and intake officer. The amount of the grant will be $44,183.00 paid from <br />the crime commission and a $5,700.00 match divided between the city and the county. <br />There have not been any changes to the grant. The grant papers have been corrected <br />and changed and will need to be signed. Lancaster made a motion and Arnold <br />seconded to approve the grant application and authorize the chair to sign for the juvenile <br />diversion grant in the amount of $44,183.00 Arnold, Eriksen, Hartman, Humiston, <br />Jeffries and Lancaster all voted yes and none voted no with Logan absent for the vote. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />Carroll Brown Chief Probation Officer requested to speak to the board. He stated that <br />the audit for the juvenile diversion office was conducted and it only took 20 minutes. Mr. <br />Chandler does an excellent job. The State of Nebraska is observing the juvenile <br />programs that Hall County has in place. The staff secure center was started and there is <br />now an emergency shelter, other counties have signed contracts for juvenile services <br />through Hall County and Hall County has the electronic monitoring. These are all <br />alternatives to detention. These program all payoff and he supports the progress Hall <br />County has made. <br /> <br />4.9:45 A.M. INTRODUCTION OF CANDIDATE FOR HEALTH DEPARTMENT <br />DIRECTOR: Eriksen stated that the Health Department Board is working on selecting a <br />new director, and the search committee has been working with the city personal <br />department director Brenda Sutherland. Mr. Hartman requested that the one of the <br />candidates talk to the county board. Eriksen stated that there is a concern on the lack of <br />communication between the boards and they hope to change this. Brenda Sutherland <br />introduced Sonja Simpson the health department director candidate. Sonja stated that <br />she is new to Grand Island. Her husband is originally from Grand Island and they have <br />decided to make this their home. Sonja stated she has a Bachelors and a Masters <br />degree in nursing. She has worked as a county health nurse, a school nurse and has <br />
