They will <br />schedule a meeting and let Howard know. <br /> <br />10 RECEIVE TORT CLAIM FROM OSCAR GONZALES FUGUAGA - Arnold made a <br />motion and Eriksen seconded to receive the tort claim from Oscar Gonzales Fuguaga. <br />Arnold, Eriksen, Hartman, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster and Logan all voted yes and <br />none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> <br />PUBLIC DEFENDER COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION DISCUSS AND APPROVE <br />ADDING ATTORNEY TO PUBLIC DEFENDER OFFICE - Arnold stated that the <br />committee met with Public Defender Jerry Piccolo in May and he requested that the <br />board add another public defender to his staff. This was discussed and should have <br />been added to his budget at that time. They are currently withdrawing from every third <br />felony because of the increased caseload. Mr. Piccolo stated that he felt by adding one <br />more public defender they would be able to handle more cases. This matter was simply <br />not addressed during the budget process. <br /> <br />Jeffries stated that they have a set number of cases that they can handle. Hartman <br />expressed concern that he does not set the salaries for his office. Jeffries stated that he <br />submits a budget for expenses only. Mr. Piccolo did send a request to the committee for <br />the additional attorney. Lancaster agreed that even with the expense of hiring another <br />attorney with salary and benefits it would be less expensive than to use court appointed <br />attorneys. <br /> <br />Arnold stated that Mr. Piccolo would move a more experienced person to do the felony <br />cases and hire a less experienced attorney for other cases <br /> <br />Hartman expressed concern that he does not met with the county board and why he is <br />turning the cases down. Lancaster stated that the attorneys are at their maximum <br />case load per attorney and they doe not choose if it is classified as a felony that is <br />determined by the county attorney. Lancaster stated that the county cannot control the <br />law enforcement costs and the county does not have any choice. <br /> <br />Arnold made a motion and Eriksen seconded to approve hiring the additional public <br />defender. Arnold, Eriksen, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster and Logan all voted yes and <br />Hartman voted no. Motion carried. <br /> <br />16 COMMENCE AUDIT OF BI WEEKLY PAY CLAIMS AND REGULAR CLAIMS AND <br />ACTION ON CLAIM AUDIT - The claims were reviewed and Hartman made a motion <br />and Logan seconded to approve the claims as audited and authorize the clerk to pay. <br />Arnold, Eriksen, Hartman, Humiston, Jeffries, Lancaster and Logan all voted yes and <br />none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> <br />BOARD ASSISTANT'S REPORT - Board assistant Stacey Ruzicka included her <br />progress report in the packets and reminded Scott Arnold that Stuhr Museum will be <br />meeting. The ADA meeting will be postponed until next Tuesday and County <br />Government Day will be November 26th. <br /> <br />BOARD MEMBER'S REPORTS - Hartman - no report <br /> <br />Humiston - No report <br />
