9:05 a.m. Held a Board of Equalization meeting <br /> 9:10 a.m. Adjourned the Board of Equalization meeting and returned to the regular <br /> meeting. <br /> Quandt noted that Robert Scarlett a veteran passed recently and MrScarlett did not <br /> have any family but numerous members of the community attended his service to pay <br /> their last respects. <br /> PUBLIC PARTICIPATION - 3B DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING <br /> SUPPORT FOR THE CENTRAL NEBRASKA HUMANE SOCIETY- Richardson noted <br /> that the Humane Society issued a statement to clear things up and she ask them to <br /> bring his forward to the County Board. The County had renegotiated a contract with <br /> them in 2025. <br /> Richardson said Greg Geis has been on the board for 3 1/2 years and Ashley Meister <br /> assistant director for 7 years was also present. They would like to clarify some issues. <br /> She sent an email of the statement to the board. They clarified that they will hold <br /> animals but they do not do the animal control. They have looked at other locations and <br /> most of the time the police do the animal control. They have tired to work with the city <br /> for a contract. They worked with the police department on a 6 month agreement. They <br /> have concerns because they are paid differently every month. They have not been able <br /> to have the necessary insurance so they had to make changes because there is a lot of <br /> misinformation out there. <br /> Richardson stated it has been a struggle. The county did renegotiate the contract and it <br /> would be better if the city would pay the same each month. This is a necessary service <br /> and it there have been major hurdles every year. <br /> Greg said they wanted a 3-year contract and then they would know where they stand. <br /> They are not shutting down. <br /> Richardson said there have been a lot of comments and it has been in the news. They <br /> wanted to make an informative statement. <br /> Lancaster questioned if it is a contract why the City is not paying the money and how <br /> they are not fulfilling the contract. <br /> Quandt noted that Mike Polock passed away he said he was a community builder. <br /> Richardson noted that he will be missed. <br /> 5 ANNUAL UPDATE FROM JON CANNON Jon Cannon with NACO distributed <br /> information to the board highlighting the NACO Officers, Board of Directors and NACO <br /> staff. <br /> 3 <br />
