Keith Rombach said he is one of the drivers and a citizen of Hall County. There are
people that have disabilities and do not have a way to get places but with the bus
service they can work and contribute to the community. They build relationships with
people, and we need to take care of those who are in distress. There is a need for the
service, and we need to provide for their needs.
Thanked for the opportunity this is a life saving service. She has lived here 47 years.
She noted the increase on property taxes was 3% and questioned fi there were some
extra funds. She appreciates the service for Hall County.
Bob thanked everyone for coming today and the comments. He noted that the county
has other services that the county pays for and noted the ambulance service and this is
life or death but the service affects people's lives and if they use their jobs it will affect
them. Need to look at the keeping the service to keep the bus service going is less than
half than the ambulance service.
Scott serves on the Midland Area Agency board and MAAA operates in 6 counties
Casey and Sam were present. They stated that Hall County is on a per ride basis but
they serve more riders and some of their trips could be longer and their rides are 50 to
60 dollars. They have staff to cover some of the work. Discussion was held on the
Medicaid rides. The client has to receive Medicaid and they have to make the
arrangements to use this service. Pam stated they do provide the Medicaid rides to Hall
County.
Ron ask where the vehicles are housed and they have them in other counties.
Lancasters ask if there is a cost to the person for the Medicaid rides but it is a set rate
that they receive. Pam said they contract with MTM and the money goes against the
invoices for the rides.
Peterson thanked them for coming.
Chair Peterson called for any other public participation, and no one responded.
Sorensen said he would like to see if there are any other options for the fees. We need
to make sure there are the best opportunities for out citizens. He expressed concern
that the service is under rated and there may be a greater need in the future.
Lancaster noted that it just comes down to the cost and it is heartbreaking, this is why it
was established in the first place so people outside of the city would have the services
they need. We need to look outside the box there are certain times when a nonprofit c
take donations from people they could contribute to a fund for a service.
6
