Marty Klein stated the tablets are in there, and are we paying to have the tablets there
he asked.
Todd stated no, it does not cost extra to have them there.
Marty stated originally the tablets were there and we made x amount of dollars off those
tablets because we allowed the tablets to be in jail, Now, we're making less than we
originally were making because of this new regulation.
Todd said yes at least on the phone and the video visitation, that is where the regulation
comes into play. There is still the messaging stuff that they do and that is not regulated.
Marty asked if we are charging this company to allow their tablets in our jail?
Todd, no we are getting a percentage of the revenue, the percentage is reduced on the
video and the voice, but the percentage on everything else would greatly increase.
Marty stated his point is we are allowing this company to profit off their devices in our
jail, so everything is negotiable. So, if they want to continue to have their tablets in our
jail, maybe they should pay Hall County a fee to allow that. Regardless of this, this
doesn't require this doesn't preclude the county from negotiating the ability for them to
pay us a fee to have their tablets in our jail. So, I would assert to ladies and gentlemen
of the board there is a way in which we can have a conversation with this company to
say okay we've got a lesser amount of money coming in because of this regulation.
However, we're allowing you access to make money on the people in our jail. How
about you how about we contract for a certain amount to allow you to have access to
the inmates in our jail.
Todd stated he thinks there is a misunderstanding here, because we've got two
contracts now with them. Well, that's what they're proposing. One is the video and the
and the voice stuff. That stuff that's that is going to be strictly by the by regulation.
They're going to have a separate contract that takes care of everything else, and what
they've proposed, I just got this at 9:00 yesterday morning. They are giving us pretty
much all the revenue and keeping a very small piece of that revenue and they do that
because they know that now they're going to be making all the money off the voice and
the visitation. So, there's money to be had but we will just have to see the contract.
Lancaster stated we need to see contract, and we don't know until this all shakes out if
we are going to be ahead, behind or what.
Peterson stated let's get more information and put it back on the agenda
Meeting was recessed at 10:23 a.m. will meet out at the Jail for Jail Tour
