turning lane on the west side or build a lane on the east side. There is a lot of traffic out
there.
Sorensen said this is an estimate and they are not asking for the design at this time.
They want to apply for the funds; it is a safety issue. Every school has exactly the same
problem for 10 minutes a day. If you live out there you know the time and need to use
common sense.
Lancaster if we have an estimate we can find out what we can or cannot do. Karen
noted that there is no curb or gutter and the school is close to the road, we need to see
if it is a valid project.
Don said we can request funds for the design, but he will know more after the meeting
Thursday. We need more information about the project. The speed limit is 55 and then
drops down to school zone.
COMMITTEE OR BOARD MEMBERS' REPORTS — Bredthauer report that the
extension office is looking at a hearing aid system and hearing devices. They hired a
new educator for the master irrigation program. Regional Planning met regarding the
comprehensive plan for PUD at Prairie Valley Subdivision. They also addressed prime
farmland and will not remove any irrigated production ground and also addressed the
valentine sand. She showed a map of the areas to build where there is not prime ag
ground and they need to consider the tax base. They need more planning and how to
develop the land. She also reported that she is the vice chair of the committee on the
Office of Violence Prevention, they are working on programs.
Lancaster reported that Grow Grand Island held a meeting and they are looking at
priorities for next year and beyond. It has not been approved yet just ideas but it is
amazing what has been accomplished.
12.CLOSED SESSION REGARDING PERSONNEL
13.CLOSED SESSION REGARDING CONTRACT NEGATIONS FOR HEALTH
INSURANCE — Sorensen made a motion and Lancaster seconded to hold closed
session for personnel and contract negotiations. Peterson stated there are 2 reasons for
a closed session, to protect the public interest or to prevent needless harm or injury to
an individual. Bredthauer, Hurst, Lancaster, Peterson, Quandt, Richrdson and
Sorensen all voted yes and no one voted no. Motion carried.
12.CLOSED SESSION REGARDING PERSONNEL
Held closed session from 10:09 a.m. to 10:19 a.m.
13.CLOSED SESSION REGARDING CONTRACT NEGATIONS FOR HEALTH
Held closed session from 10:20 a.m. to 10:31 a.m.
7
