12.DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION ON IMPROVING SAFETY OF PARK
PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT — Lancaster noted some of the playground equipment is
old and there are fall kits that can be installed to make it safer. She talked to Dustin and
discussed if it could be managed to put in the fall kits and not to exceed $10,000.00
over a 2 year period
Lancaster made a motion and Quandt seconded to have the Park Superintendent
improve the safety of the playground equipment with fall kits.
Mr. Humphrey stated he is familiar with playground safety needs. You cannot use wood
chips, wood borders or treated lumber. They can use gravel in some areas but you
have to buy plastic borders and engineered wood chip and it may cost more than
$10,000. He said they need to work together and will get more information on this. He
has a check list of the safety issue for the park and a check list for safety issues on the
buildings. They need to look at all of the equipment. The playground equipment is old
but it does not get much use and there is usually a parent supervising. He said they
need a priority list and a plan.
Richardson said she would like to see the entire safety plan instead of just one small
section.
The vote on the motion to have the Park superintendent improve the safety was taken.
Lancaster Quandt and Peterson all voted yes and Bredthauer, Hurst, Richardson and
Sorensen voted no. Motion failed.
6.10:00 A.M.
