Judge Wetzel noted <br /> that last year between Judge Corey and himself they had 560 juvenile cases most <br /> juvenile judges would have 250 cases. Hall County has juvenile court 1 day a week. <br /> They contacted Senator Aguilar requesting to have separate juvenile judges. Currently <br /> there are 3 other counties that have separate juvenile judges. The system is full and <br /> Judge Wetzel noted that one afternoon he heard 93 juvenile cases. They do not have <br /> the time to set down with the juveniles or the parents to discuss the cases. This <br /> coordinator would provide alternatives for the judges in separate resources in the <br /> community. This request is going to the Judicial Resources Committee in December. <br /> Judge Corey said they need to find placement options instead of bringing them into the <br /> system they need to look out for the best interest of the juveniles. The coordinator <br /> would be able to do this <br /> Lancaster thanked for the opportunity and ask if the 560 cases were all Hall County <br /> cases. Discussion was held on the request to have the coordinator be a state <br /> employee. She also noted that he county does have ARPA fund that could be used for <br /> buildings if needed. <br /> Marty said there is an advantage to being state employee. The information would be <br /> available but it is not the direct access that probation would have. The coordinator <br /> would check on them on a regular basis and there would be no gap in time. He also <br /> noted the risk any catastrophic health issues would be moved to the state so that risk <br /> would not be there. Marty also added they will need community partners to prevent this <br /> issues happening and need adequate supervision. If they do things right they hope to <br /> reduce the numbers. There a lot of juveniles coming into the system because they make <br /> poor choices. <br /> Lancaster said she believes that our county people do an excellent job and is confident <br /> they would. If he thinks a state employee would be a better fit she would accept that. <br /> Sorensen this will take a special individual and ask if he has located a person. Marty <br /> said they have been collecting job descript from other JDAI coordinators and their first <br /> job would be to finalize the job description. He has some ideas and has people in mind <br /> that he will rich out to. This person will have to have the drive to do this and they think <br /> they can find a good hire in a reasonable amount of time. Sorensen noted it is tough to <br /> hire people but Marty said he has 3 people he will reach out to. <br /> Bredthauer ask if the GIPS decided to keep the interventions and Marty said they did <br /> will see how this will go but they will both be in the schools. <br /> 7 <br />
