Don stated that they discussed the grade-all but the county needs motor graders and <br /> purchasing them now will save money. <br /> Bredthauer stated that it is more important to have the motor graders. <br /> Sorensen suggested that Don needs to determine if they really need a grade-all. <br /> Sorensen stted that if they buy a $400,000 grade-all you will need someone to operate it <br /> so they would need more employees. <br /> Quandt said labor is expensive and hard to find. They have to address people instead <br /> of equipment The County will have to address raises and they do not want to lay off <br /> people. Quandt said they recently hired someone from the state. <br /> Don stated that they are clearing out the ditches and the public has been taking the dirt <br /> so that eliminated trucking off the dirt. They have the rubber tire excavator that will work <br /> and they can get by with that machine. They need to prioritize what they need and they <br /> can get by with the equipment they have now. <br /> Quandt noted that there are things we have to o and things that we do not have to fund. <br /> Right now we have a department that is down employees and that has to be addressed. <br /> They need to address raises and watch the spending. <br /> Don stated it is important for the board to have the information and this needs a lot of <br /> thought. <br /> Peterson questioned if we really need the grade all and ask if it can do more than one <br /> thing. The roads are one thing that the county is responsible for. <br /> Bredthauer noted that the trade in is $50,000 and the repairs to the transmission are <br /> $43,000. The roads are important and the county will not get out of the road business <br /> any time soon. If a grader is down they will not be able to keep up the roads. <br /> Peterson stated this will be on the agenda for the next meeting and Sarah is doing <br /> some investigating. <br /> Mr. Robb reported that they did purchase some new cones to be used for the State Fair <br /> marathon. The old ones do not look very nice. This is a 26 mile marathon. He also <br /> said they set the bid opening for the box culvert on 70th and Airport Road. He said they <br /> worked with the State and it went well. <br /> 6 B) DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION TO AWARD BID FOR JANITORIAL <br /> SERVICES - Mr. Humphrey returned with the bids and BMI from Omaha was the low <br /> bidder. They have building in town that they clean. He also checked the references <br /> from Lincoln and Omaha. It is up to the county board if they want to do the full service <br /> or the modified service. This is for a 2 year contract. <br /> 8 <br />
