9:05 Held a Board of Equalization meeting
9:14 a.m. adjourned the Board of Equalization meeting and returned to the regular
meeting.
5. DISCUSS & APPROVE CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR THE GRAND GENERATION
CENTER - Pam Lancaster introduced JJ Green and Dana Kirby with Senior Citizens
Industries. Mr. Green thanked the County board for their past support and read a letter.
He noted that they served 76000 meals at the Senior Center, Meals on Wheels,
Doniphan, Wood River and the drive through meals. The Older American Act funds are
distributed to them through Midland Area Agency on Aging on a per plate basis. Last
year it was $4.90 and $3.90 for home delivered meals. The actual cost per meal is
$9.09 there is a big gap for the meals with inflation costs, labor and food supplies. They
currently ask for a donation for the meals. They are concerned that the short fall will be
$85,000.00. The county has contributed $70,000.00 the past few years. The City
leases the building for $1.00 and pays for the repairs. The center also offers classes
and activities. He also noted that they did some remodeling and hope to increase
participation. Without the county's and city's support they would not be able to
continue.
Richardson ask if the county would be able to get the financials for the center.
Butch Hurst, Karen Bredthauer and Scot Sorensen attended the MAAA meeting and
Hall county gets the same as other facilities Butch stated this is a good place to put
county dollars.
Peterson stated he toured the center and ask if there is a way to make people aware of
the need for donations with a general announcement. Mr. Green stated there is a fine
line regarding this there is a general announcement and they have a donation box. It is
in the carter that they can only ask for donations. They try to make people aware of the
need for donations . Ron also stated the entertainment was good.
Karen, Scott and Butch attended the MAAA meeting in February and Hall County
receives less donations than other facilities. Hall County is receiving $2.48 donations
for the meals and we get the same reimbursements from federal dollars as the other
centers.
Bredthauer made a motion and Lancaster seconded to approve the $85,000.00 instead
of the $70,000.00 because of the increased costs of food and labor.
Richardson expressed concern that she would like to see the financials the county may
have everyone asking for additional funding. This is our fiscal duty.
Sorensen said he was curious because Hall County's donations are behind the other 8
counties and we have a higher population. He noted that Cairo is not part of Hall
3
