New Insurance Benefits In an effort to assist with the ongoing COVID19 pandemic, the federal government recently announced that it has purchased 500 million rapid tests and will be distributing them free for use at home beginning on January 18, 2022. The sites to visit and request these free tests are as follows: https://special.usps.com/testkits or https://www.covidtests.gov/ . Choosing to pursue the free tests through the websites above will have no direct impact on the costs to our self-funded group health insurance costs. In addition to the free tests being made available to you through the websites above, our group health insurance was modified to allow for covered members to obtain tests through the plan's pharmacy portion of the agreement. Obtaining tests through this method, consistent with the information below offers an additional low to no cost option to obtain COVID19 tests. However, the cost for these tests may ultimately increase the overall cost of administering the self-funded health insurance group plan and may result in higher insurance costs in the future. The County wants you to be aware of this insurance benefit and to use it when it is best for you and your covered family members. However, the County wants to discourage stockpiling and waste. If it is not necessary and beneficial, obtaining many tests may inadvertently drive the overall costs of the tests up, and stockpiling tests serves no beneficial purpose as it contributes to waste if the tests are not used timely and must be disposed. Eligibility: Beginning January 15, 2022, Magellan Rx Management will be providing coverage of 8 tests per 30-day period per member. Some OTC COVID-19 tests are sold in packages containing more than one test. In applying the quantity limit of 8 tests per 30-days, the plan will count each test separately, even if multiple tests are sold in one package. Availability: Magellan Rx Management plans to process pharmacy claims for FDA authorized, cleared, or approved OTC COVID-19 antigen tests at$0 for members who utilize an in-network pharmacy. Members should check-out at the pharmacy counter with their pharmacy benefit (prescription) card.
