10 FACILITIES D) DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION TO APPROVE CHANGE
ORDER FOR COURTHOUSE THIRD FLOOR EXITING - Mr. Humphrey stated he met
with the contractor and the architect regarding the doors. The contactor placed the
brow above the door but it was too small so because the holes were already there it
was decided to replace the small brow with the correct size. It will also help to keep the
water away from the door. During this discussion the contractor did not mention that
there would be a $500.00 cost for the brow. Even though there is the $500.00 change
order there was $7,500.00 deductions on the project. They have made adjustments on
the door and it now closes and is tight.
Quandt stated that there was a gap under the door and it should have been installed
correctly. The county should not have to pay for their mistakes.
Richardson stated this is a small amount and we need to make sure they will still do
business with the county.
Lancaster stated you should not be able to see daylight under the door it is a matter of
principal and they were tired of having to call them to fix things.
Quandt said you could see from the ground it was not hitting right. It needs to be done
correctly.
Quandt made a motion and Sorensen seconded to not approve the change order.
Discussion was held the door is fixed now and this is for the brow that was installed
over the door. Loren said the brow is a benefit it will help keep the water away from the
door. Lancaster noted that they put up the brow without the county knowing they put it
up. Peterson said if the brow is removed there will be holes where it was and they
would have to be sealed up.
Richardson ask about the $7,500.00 deduction and this was because they did not take
out as much stone when they put in the doors. Gary said they did not have the right
kind of saw to cut the stone so they cut it differently.
Sorensen withdrew his second on Gary's motion. Lancaster called for a second to
Gary's motion and no one seconded the motion. Motion failed for the lack of a second. -
Peterson made a motion and Sorensen seconded to approve the change order for
$500.00.
