6. 9:45 A.M. TONYA BROWN — PRESENTATION GROW GRAND ISLAND Tonya <br /> Brown stated she would like to update the board on some completed projects and <br /> provided information to the board members. She stated they will be working on a sign <br /> project. The signs are 20 years old and need to be updated they will start this spring on <br /> Highway 281, Highway 30 and at the Airport. They are working on the land contract. <br /> Grow Grand Island was incorporated in 2016 and they are 6 years old. They recently <br /> did a survey and received 125 responses and created a list of priorities to help guide the <br /> future initiatives. <br /> Lancaster stated she appreciates the update and it is important to move forward. Grand <br /> Island is a good place to live. <br /> Peterson ask about their funding it comes from the beverage tax and Tonya stated they <br /> also apply for grants, they do different campaigns and some private funding. There was <br /> a proposed sunset on the beverage tax but could be a 2 year renewal. Lancaster noted <br /> that the beverage tax was down because of COVID. She also noted that in the past <br /> there were separate organizations but now they are together and work together. <br /> E) DISCUSSION & CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF <br /> ASPHALT FOR PATCHING COUNTY ROADS IN 2021 USING CITY OF GRAND <br /> ISLAND CONTRACT AS BID ON JANUARY 13, 2021 (CITY BID TAB ATTACHED) <br /> Steve stated he would like to use the state bid that ae sued by other government <br /> entities. Currently Gary Smith has the bid for the City of Grand Island and he would like <br /> to have the authorization to do this. Mr. Smith has always given the county the same <br /> bid price as the city. <br /> Sorensen made a motion and Bredthauer seconded to approve the purchase of the <br /> asphalt using the City of Grand Island contract. Bredthauer, Hurst, Lancaster, Quandt, <br /> Peterson, Richardson and Sorensen all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> F) PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE Steve stated he talked to Ron Baldwin with J.I.L. and <br /> they now have a 25 foot rolling straight edge to check the bumps. They need to get <br /> started on this project and get it done before they start on any other projects. Gary <br /> Smith will be back on asphalt work for the county and they are also doing some crack <br /> sealing on Wood River Road west of Highway 11. <br /> They have checked on culverts and 2 more have failed one on Rosedale Road and one <br /> on Shady Bend Road the infrastructure is old. They did some inspections and now they <br /> do the inspections and the reports electronically the photos can be taken on the phones <br /> to and put on the computer. They're trying to do a better job tracking the culverts. <br /> Steve stated that the contractor doing the shop floor will accept the contract price and <br /> no additional costs. They have ordered the 2 part sealer and will get the cracks sealed <br /> and then apply the salt/sand sealer and power wash the walls also paint the walls. Then <br /> start the equipment repairs. <br /> 7 <br />
