DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION OF HIRING BUILDING INSPECTOR AND
RELATED COMPENSATION PACKAGE — Peterson reviewed the offer of employment
to Denise Kozel. They met with Denise last Friday and tried to stay in the original salary
range and also created an incentive for completing the ICC certification. He noted that
Alan could stay for 4 months but that should not be necessary. They are currently
under budget so that will help. He said even after one year Denise would still be $1.00
under what Alan would receive. They will meet with her in 6 months to see where she is
at.
A copy of the offer of employment letter was provided to the board. She will start part-
time February 2, 2021 at $25.00 an hour and will stay at that rate until completion of the
ICC certification and that time will increase to $27.50. They will conduct a performance
review after 6 months and then annually. After one year and a satisfactory review her
salary will increase to $30.00 an hour. This would still be less than Alan would be
making.
Richardson made a motion and Sorenson seconded hire Denise Kozel with the
proposed compensation that was suggested.
Quandt thanked the committee for their work. He ask if the small communities been
contacted
Sorensen stated that he talked to people in Doniphan and they are supportive and Cairo
was mixed response there are a lot of areas where we have commercial properties.
The rural folks feel some of the issues will fall back on the property owners. As long as
Denise is certified by the county will be doing our due diligence. The county will be
covered
Peterson stated that Denise had served on the city electrical board and city would
provide assistance as a resource if needed. She also had some commercial properties
as customers.
6
