PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT - PUBLIC HEARING 1 & 6 ROAD PROGRAM
Steve Riehle was present did not add any new project to the 1 and 6 concentrating on
asphalt roads and road slippages some issues on bridges and there is one road that is
unstable because of the land sliding.
They are resurfacing of Potash Highway and Alda Road were completed and the only
rough stop is by the railroad tracks and he is working with ARS Rail and they are
addressing removing some of the old tracks they are working with them to close the
road and do the work and they will also replace the planking
Completed a project on Engleman Road and the board approved the change order and
doing resurfacings on Highway 2. there are some problems on the double stop on
Highway 2 and the there is a stop sign at Airport Road so people have a tendency to go
through it. They have put up some signage but they may need to rework the
intersections to make it safer but there may be so opposition if they were to close that
leg.
Steve stated that there were a number of project that were pushed back Project C40-
342 was pushed bank and the bridge on Monitor Road. He reported that his is looking at
the Homestead drainage issues. The North Road ad Airport Road has drainage issues
and he is looking at the culverts and also the drive ways. There is one driveway that
was not permitted and does not have a culvert so they cost would be charged to the
property owner. There are older driveways that the culverts are 30 years old and need
to be replaced so that would be a cost to the county.
Steve stated they used to put project number on the asphalt project if they were used
for capital improvements but now the state statutes have changed and they are not part
of the capital improvements. In order to qualify as a capital improvement it has to be
beyond resurfacing it has to be a maintenance improvement projects to be part of the
$250,000 capital improvement dollars.
The notice of the 1 & 6 was posted and advertised in the paper they do not have to
submit it to the State. He needs a motion to approve the 1 & 6.
Richardson made a motion and Hurst seconded to approve the 1 & 6 Road Program.
Bredthauer, Hartman, Hurst, Lancaster, Quandt, Peterson and Richardson all voted yes
and none voted no.
